I think it is common to go through a little depression after any surgery. Healing drains you of energy sometimes. Plus, with the lapband I felt that I was so tense and excited about the surgery that there was a let-down afterwards when I was pretty much the same person...only sorer. (Really I think somewhere in my subconscious I expected to wake up thin and seventeen again....sigh, tis not so.) And in our rushed culture we tend not to give ourselves much recovery time for anything...elective surgery included.

I had the same issue post op. I missed food so much. My doc explained it to me like this.

You are in the process of divorcing food. You will miss it because it has played a huge part in your life but it is time to move on to a better way of living. Food is not a good companion.

In the book Women Food and God, Geneen Roth helped me understand that it is actually "comfort food" that makes me so miserable. It helped me avoid feelings and added another problem onto them, morbid obesity.

A healthy way of life makes me feel better. I traded guilt and shame for confidence and pride. Remember all the things that are coming to you as you lose weight. I watch many youtube videos of vloggers dancing in their new size 6 and 4 clothes. Being able to cross your legs, and run when you need to. Maybe even deciding you want to run a 5k. You are on your way to that.

The stage you are in now was the hardest for me. I survived it and am so thankful I passed through it. Read up on all the NSV's people have had. It encourages me to see all the happy moments that are coming to me.

I actually crossed me legs yesterday. I was so thrilled I could have sat there forever. I got my wedding ring back on. I can wear lace up shoes now. I was able to buy some cute underwear instead of granny panties. I was running and training for a 5k but got tendonitis. Once that heals I can't wait to get going at it again. I wanna feel the excitement of crossing the finish line of my first 5k. I FEEL so much lighter and happier with myself because I know I am making the right choices.

Just try to focus on all the positive that is coming in your life. I had no idea what I was getting into and am so excited about my lapband. You'll make it through this and then the fun will begin.

You know that makes sense to me. Thank you. It feels like grieving. And fear

I think when the weight starts to go the trade will be complete. Now it feels like

I am not eating and not losing still overweight at the same time. Going nowhere sort of thing

I feel a little better today. But yes food was a friend but not very good for me

unfortunatly I still miss it!

I've had the same feelings. But they will pass and when you see that scale start moving downward, you will want to work harder and thus it gets easier.

I was banded on April 20th.The first two week's I was fine, then on the third week I got very depressed because I was unhappy with my weight loss{which was fine]Yes this is normal.I did not realize how much food meant too me and what a huge part it played in my life.It was my comfort,my quick fix and alway's there to make me not to feel thing's that were painful.I also started hating my band and getting mad at myself because I couldn't eat untill I was so full of food I felt like I was sedated.Everything is getting better and I see a therapist once a week too get past my head and deal with this fixation with food.We heavy people feel like we don't deserve too feel good but we do!This is work body and soul.Yes I had a hard time Memorial weekend,Besides missing food and bbq's and beer I had too put my cat to sleep, I thought I was going to explode. But I didn't overeat or drink,I dealt with all these emotions and didn't give in.So yes you will have these day's but they will pass,You can do it!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
