9.25cc in a 14cc band

Recommended Posts

Ok so im feeling really discouraged. I have 9.25cc in my 14cc band and was still able to eat steak today. I had to stop myself or else I would have ate the whole thing. I can still eat bread, fries and nuts. My weightloss is coming off slow. I never feel full. Sometimes if i over eat i do feel a little sore. When i feel like this i stick to liquids/protein shakes until i feel i can eat again which is usually later during the day. I want to know when the heck am i going to feel like i cant eat anymore. Im at a loss. I feel like I have alot in my band right now for me to be eating the way I am.

I have 9.6cc in my 14 AP Large band. You are one of the few ppl that I have noted having so many cc in the band. I just got my most recent 1cc and I do have restriction but feel like I can still eat more than I should. My weight has come off slow too, but I think we just need to stay focused. One thing I learned in another thread was that some docs actually unfill and refill to verify the amount. I was thinking of asking my doc to do that just to see if she missed the port once, but I have really felt restriction everytime. Some ppl can eat a good variety of foods so don't base it on what u can eat... but definitely being able to overeat is not good. Ask lots of questions of the doctor and don't give up!

Thanks Gail for your response. Ive been so depressed about it today my husband convinced me to make an appt with my dr this week. Sometimes I feel embarressed that i go in to her office so much and that I still need fills for restriction. I had my surgery jan 26 2010 my dr thank goodness is very aggressive with fills. This last one i got i did feel restriction for like a week and now its gone. Its pretty much what happens with every fill. Im going this week and see what she says.

Thanks again. :cursing:

i feel the same as you about sometimes eating in the later part of the day also. I also have a 14 band and I'm up to 12.2 fill and probably gonna get another .2 this coming thursday because tonight for dinner I was able to eat 4 cups of chili but earlier in the day I could only drink Protein, Water and ice tea. It's all very confusing to me also because I thought when your at your sweet spot you eat only about a cup of food each meal

I'd ask for a complete unfill/refill to make sure you have that much in your band, to start with. I know that throughout the five months I've done fills, I actually did have less than I was reported to on my 3rd fill. Last week I went from 8cc to 9cc (in a 14cc band), but he pulled out the entire 8cc to verify before he put back in all 9cc to add a total of 1cc. There are many reasons we don't have as much fill as we're supposed to have, but it can be corrected.

If that's not the case, you gotta be patient. My doctor was convinced that 8cc's would do me in...and I went 6 weeks not getting another fill (even had 2 appointments in that time and the doctor didn't give me fills). Finally, I PUSHED my doctor last week and explained that I was NOT at my sweet spot, I'm eating large portions, etc. He agreed to drain and refill up to 9cc...and it's been working like a charm! I've had a wonderful week of restriction and, even if it loosens up a little bit, that'd be okay! Foods have been REALLY tough to get down this week, but I know I'm not overfilled because of what I'm able to eat.

My advice would be to schedule an appt. SOON and tell your doctor that you need a fill. Even at 8cc? I could eat a whole steak too...9cc made a WORLD of difference. But, we're all different, right?

for all my fills the doctor does a complete unfill/refill to make sure there is no leaks and so far everything has come out right.

Some times I feel the same way. I have 7.1cc fill in a 10cc band, and there are times that I can eat a piece of steak with no problem. I can pratically eat whatever I want at times if I chew slowly. Every body is different and it's hard not to compare yourself with others. Not to worry just stay foucus on what your goal is.

I have a 14cc band and I'm currently at 10.25ccs. I had my most recent fill on 6/3, and I was banded in 9/09. I lost 30 pounds in the 30 days after surgery, and another 14 pounds since then. Discouraged is putting it mildly.

But during this last fill I asked for a complete empty and measure, and found that one fill was missed. I was only at 9cc's when I shoudl have been at 10. they put the 9 back, added 1.25 on top, and I'm sore sore SORE from it. feels like I was punched in the chest.

The soreness seems to be from gas, which is finally subsiding. And i have restriction. BIG time. Either that or i'm just swollen from the unfill/fill. Time will tell.

I feel your frustration on this - i don't know what i'm going to do if this most recent fill doesn't do it for me. I was told that as we loose weight, more Fluid has to be added to keep up. How is that going to work when i'm almost at max level now?

I'm not very happy with this whole procedure at the moment, but i'm stuck with it.

I wish I could give you advice or encouragement, but right now all i can do is sympathize, and hope we both start seeing a positive result soon. Good luck to you!

I feel all of your pain. I have 7.1 cc's in a 14 cc band and have no restriction at all. I can eat bread, noodles, prime rib, etc. I go to the Dr. Thursday so hopefully, a new fill will help. I have went for fills monthly since my surgery in Sept. 09. I am getting very discouraged. I have been around 30 pounds lost since Dec. / Jan. I want this to work.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
