Help! My first doctor's appointment! Help!

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

June 7th is coming up quick! I am schedule to have my first visit with the surgeon, nutritionist, and fitness counselor! Ahh!

Can anyone shed some light and tell me what there visit was like. Does the doctor just talk to you or is there blood work involved too?? I'm not to worry about the nutritionist or fitness counselor! Ha! Doctors scare me! Any advice would be helpful! Thanks in advance!

Its really just informational, exploreing options others will be presented includeing the gastric by pass most likely. Depending on your insurance company you could be waiting for 6 months before the surgery is finally approved and set

Thanks for the insight. I'm actually going through a three month prep with the surgeon's office. I only see the dr twice b4 surgery, so that's why I'm curious to see what the visits will be like.

One your first appointment - besides what everyone else mentioned, you will be weighed and measured. One piece of advice I would give you is to drink lots of Water prior to your appointment so that you weigh in a little high. Your doctor will give you a weight loss goal this weighing a little bit more gives you more flexibility on future weigh-ins. My surgery date is 7/8/10 - I can hardly wait!

I met with the surgeon and nutritionist yesterday for the first time and it was no big deal. The surgeon asked me why the LapBand (vs gastric bypass), she checked my scars from previous surgeries(check to see how well I healed) and we discussed some questions I had. Next week I have my psych eval which I am a little nervous about.

I saw my PCP on April 29, 2010 to discuss the option of LapBand for me. She agreed and prepared the referral to the IPA. I had my referral on May 3 and saw my doctor intially on May 5. Did my psche eval on May 11 and was submitted to Blue Shield for approval on May 19 and just received my approval on May 24. YAY!!! My surgery is already scheduled for June 4! This was the complete fAST TRACK!! I think i just got lucky .. so if you stay on top of people you might be lucky and get the process moving fast.

It was all pretty easy. Hang in there.

I had my first appt with the MD on 5/12. I met with the nurse first. She was wonderful. She answered a lot of my questions. The Dr came in afterward and we discussed the type of surgery I was looking to have and discussed options. 5/18 I had all of my presurgery testing which included blood work, EKG, Chest xray, and upper GI. Yesterday 5/24 I met with the Psychologist. It was really stress free. I received a lot of insite on how to start changing my thinking around eating. The nutritionist visit was today. She gave me a diet plan for the first 2 months after surgery and discussed the value of eating right. My Dr. requires everyone to have a sleep study. Mine is scheduled for June 8. Then finally I will have my return Dr visit to discuss the results.

Thanks everyone!! All of the information you guys have given has been very helpful and helped me to be comfortable about the whole process! It's hard doing this process by yourself. My husband is here for support, but doesn't know the first thing about any of this. Thank you again! :o

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
