For me, it would be an equal mixture of health and vanity reasons. I wanted to be healthier, to keep up with my daughter, to rid myself of sleep apnea, to live a long life with my wonderful family.

But I also wanted to walk into a room with my hubby, see heads turn and have him think, "Wow, I'm a lucky man" lol. I wanted Jaz's classmates to stop teasing her about her "fat mum" (that really pissed her off lol). I wanted to shop in regular stores and not have the sales woman turn around when I walk in to inform me, "I'm sorry, we only carry up to size 16". I wanted to go to the beach and not be embarassed. I wanted to increase my self confidence.

Most of these things, I've accomplished now :) Still a ways to go before I reach goal, but I've never been happier with myself.

To be happy and healthy...To get off the yo yo dieting that was messing with my head...to look in the mirror and see ME...

Having this surgery was finally admitting to myself that the problem was bigger than me simply over eating. This operation gave me hope.

Mine was for my 2 year old son and my husband...I needed to be around longer then I probably would've if I haven't. Plus I was tired of being overweight it was time to do something for me!

What is yours?

I was tired of fighting and losing the weight war. I'd been on a diet all my life and was still the f word, (fat). I was also tired of always being the heaviest person at any function I went to, be it a family gathering or a Harley ralley, or social event, I always felt like I stuck out like a sore thumb.

I love my band!

I decided to get banded because:

1) I was tired of yo-yo dieting and putting my supportive husband through yet another diet. (he always ate the way my diet called for)

2) I realized that I can't love my husband the way I really want to until I'm happy with me.

3) For vanity reasons.

Stephanie,

Boy do I relate to that! My husband has put up with so much, I cannot wait to feel okay naked in fromt of him and not be so stressed about becoming even more crippled with the weight and lack of energy. I have alway been beautiful, and have lost that feeling for a while now. I refuse to go down the trail of embarassement anymore.

I hate the yo yo stuff with a passion. So looking forward to tues. I shall keep reading and posting as it keps me sane.....

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
