Banded May 13? Please share progress....

Recommended Posts

I was banded May 13. I went in for the Pre-Op on the day before, and asked to report to the Hospital at 7:30 am. I was not called in untill almost 10:00am. I started my Protein diet 2 weeks before at 240 and on Surgery day I was 223. Nurse started the IV, gave me a shot of anticlog med., put on leg massagers and was taken in for surgery at about 11:00 am. Next thing I remember I was in recovery being to move from bed to a recliner. I was taken for the x-ray and asked to go to the restroom and given a sip of juice. I was given instructions to go home and was discharged at 2 pm. The first 3 days were the hardest in the sence that it was so hard to get in and out of bed and out of chairs. I did not have problems with the shoulder pain, Thank God. But gas was some what uncomfortable. I am still on liquids. I've been having cream Soups. I put them in the blinder and use Water instead of milk and it does the job. I do get full very quick. I am not able to eat nearly as much as before. I went back to work yesterday and by noon I was tired and very sore. I got home at 3pm took med and slept until this morning. So all seems to be going good. My coworkers say that they are able to see a big difference already. I have not actually weighed myself yet, but I did notice some shirts fitting a little lose.

Did anyone have surgery on the same day or close enough that can share their experience with me?? Good luck to all.

Lace, I was also banded May 13. I posted my story already but I too am back at work as of this morning. I got lucky and had very little soreness and no gas pain to speak of. I could have gone back to work on Monday but I didn't have a lot of energy due to the liquid diet. I started mushies/soft foods yesterday so that helped a lot. I did go in for a post-op follow-up yesterday and I've already lost 13 lbs so hopefully you'll have similar good results. Hang in there!

Hi Lace! I was banded May 13 also. I was sore getting up and down for the first couple of days too. I had to stay one night in the hospital. I work as a nurse and do alot of lifting. My surgeon told me not to go back to work for ten days, but since my post op appt isn't until May 28, I can't start work until May 29. I have lost eleven and a half pounds so far. I'm so excited about that! I started on a full liquid diet today. For Breakfast I ate a yogurt and had a Protein Shake about two hours later. I was supposed to start the Protein shake an hour after breakfast, but I still felt really full. I had alot of trouble with pains in my chest and belly from the gas...no shoulder pain either. Good luck with everything guys!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
