What do you count as "water"?

Recommended Posts

Well, Water obviously is the best count for Water. But do you count. . . .

Non-Caffeinated herbal tea?

Propel?

Lemonade?

Gatorade?

Crystal Lite?

Flavored Bottled Waters, like Dansi? Aquafina. . etc?

If it is primarily water and has no calories, then is it counted as water?

Or is only water counted as water?

I'm asking because I'm suppose to get 40-64 oz of water a day into my body, and I'm getting bored with 'just water', if water is the answer, I will gladly continue just water. :-)

What are your thoughts? Thanks ~ Erica

I count Crystal Light as Water. I would count any of those listed as water, but you are right that WATER is the only real water. So pick a happy medium...you can drink 10 ounces of some substitute for every 20 ounces of water, you get the picture, just so you stay on board with your good WATER intake. Happy sipping!!

Just remember that if you drink 8oz of caffinated anything you need 16oz of non caffinated "Water" to make up for it. Or at least that is what I was told by my doc. ~Mandy

Just remember - it takes Water to flush the chemicals out of your body - so if you take liquid with "stuff" in it, then you have to drink MORE liquid to help flush the dyes and sweeteners out of your body.

If your doc says 40 to 64 oz - then try for at least 40 of clear Water and then take a bunch more liquid with flavorings and stuff.

liquids are liquids--as long as they have no bubbles, caffeine, or sugar they "count" toward your daily intake. But I've found Water is just easiest--I carry around a water bottle and fill it up a couple of times a day. Get in that habit and you'll be fine!

Thank you everyone for all your thoughts!!!!

Just a note, I have had my band for 7+ weeks now, I have not consumed an ounce of coffee, espresso or any caffinated beverage, I also have not consumed an ounce of carbonated anything in those weeks. Nor do I intend to ever consume those items again. Mostly because that is what I want for my body and cannot see what caffeine or carbonation adds to my life.

I love to drink liquids!!!! I can easily consume more then the needed 64 oz in a day, lots of Water, some milk (I like Milks calories and Protein levels), a random Propel here and there. . . etc -- I was simply asking my question to open my types of liquids consumed and see what others have tried and/or failed in this process.

Life is about learning new things and this (the band) is definitely a learning experience.

Thanks ~ Erica

I thought any liquids apart from alcohol or caffeinated ones - although obviously the less calories in your liquids the better.

What about decaffeinated coffee? Does that count?. I'm slowly cutting back again from my 7 or 8 cup of coffee a day habit, replacing all but 2 or 3 with Decaf instead.

I think I remember W.W. telling us that according to their plan you count Gatorade and stuff like that as .5 of a Water. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
