Hope I am not overfilled...

I just got another 1cc added and am up to 7.5cc in a Lapband APS (10cc capacity). This is the first time after a fill that I'm experiencing Water going down slowly. I can only drink one sip at a time and there is a lot of gurgling as it goes down. Does this sound alright? I'm a little concerned just because I've never been this tight before.

My doctor says only to drink Clear Liquids for 72 hours after a fill, though, so I guess I shouldn't worry about it for now. Maybe it will loosen up by the time I am supposed to be able to eat. For those of you who are at your sweet spot, what do you think? Is that a normal feeling for water to go down slow and gurgle???

It depends on if you swell when you get filled, I am always tighter after a fill, but it does loosen up in 3-5 days. So you will likely have to play it by ear. If liquids go down, and you dont have an issue then I would give it a day or so to see if it gets better. But if it stays like that you wont be able to eat so you may need to back off a little bit.

I was in the same boat last week. I told the NP that I felt more restriction than most people seem to at 5 cc's (10 cc band). She gave me two cc's anyway but I couldn't even drink two sips of the Water she gave me so immediately took 1 out.

I gave it three days and was unable to keep even a morsel of food down. And Protein Shakes were making me feel mildly stuck for about 20-30 seconds after every sip. Oh, and was also hearing the gurgles when I drank anything. And every sip made me feel like I needed to burp even though I was super cautious not to let any air down.

I went back and she took 1/2 cc out. I've been doing mostly mushies still so I can't say if it's perfect.

My doc doesn't allow adjustments any more than 6 weeks apart so I knew that if I had an unfill, I couldn't go back for more until then. Thankfully my weight loss has been pretty good but, had it not been, I might have waited longer than 3 days to decide. Also a consideration, my restriction was decent at my original 5 cc's.

Sorry for rambling.

I got a fill on Wednesday that put me at 5cc in my 10cc band.

Liquids trickled down for the first three days, then I was able to get some mushies down, I had to take really tiny bites. Today I was able to get soft meat down, a finely chopped salad and mashed potatoes. It still takes me about half an hour to consume a 6 ounce yogurt. I can feel the liqid trickle down in the early morning when I am tightest.

I think I may be closer to restiction than I was before, but I do not want to count on being there and find I am not.

Update... I've decided to go for a slight unfill today. I have an appointment in 2 hours. Last night, I just kept getting tighter and tighter. Then, I decided to have some warm broth. Big Mistake! That made me swell almost completely shut. I had to spit out my saliva for awhile it was so bad. Then, I alternated between sipping really cold Water and spitting out my saliva and that seemed to reduce the swelling enough so that I could sleep comfortably. I really did not want to have to go to the ER and end up w/a complete unfill.

Woke up this morning feeling fine, but then took two tiny sips of water and started feeling all the gurgling and discomfort again. So, I don't know if the swelling would go down in a few days, but I can't even deal w/a few days of this. Plus, I had very good restriction after my last fill and did not have trouble with fluids. So, I really don't think it would get better enough to stick w/for the long run. Anyway, I hope she can just take maybe half out and I'll be good w/that. We shall see...

I have been chasing the sweet spot for a year with fills, overfills, and unfills. They need to be able to use smaller syringes, in my opinion, to give tinier amounts. I hope your "little" unfill does the trick. It is miserable being overfilled!!!

Best wishes, Mimi

Just checking in...Did you get an unfill?

I am feeling the same exact way. Water going down very slowly, trickle, trickle...

I got my 2nd fill 2 days ago and was stuck yesterday for 2 hours, sliming and PBing. Water goes down very slowly...

I have an appt. this afternoon for a little unfill, but part of me wonders if I should wait it our another day.

I hear the post fill swelling last about 3 days...

I need restriction but need to be able t function without carrying around an empty water bottle to slime and PB in...I know, kind of gross.:w00t:

Yes, I got a slight unfill yesterday. She took out half (0.5cc) of what she had put in the day before (1.0cc). So, now I'm at 7.0cc. As soon as she did the unfill, I felt completely better and could drink Water normally again. Well, I can't guzzle water, but I can drink about 3 oz at one time w/no gurgling or discomfort. I've never been so happy to just be able to drink water freely.

She said it was better that I didn't wait it out. I think its a very personal thing and you gotta decide how long you can take being too tight. Even if my swelling would've gone down in one or two days, I just can't spend a whole day or two doing nothing but trying to hydrate myself (painfully). For the time I gave it (24 hours), I just felt stressed out and worried that it would get worse. For me, the time right after a fill is not always the tightest for me. Sometimes, I feel more tight two weeks after. So, that also played into my decision to get back in there and take care of it right away.

I am so glad you decided to go for an unfill. I completely understand how sweet plain old cold Water tastes after a too tight episode. I am going for yet another trial fill tomorrow and hope I don't get overfilled. It is hard when each adjustment costs me $125 and my sweet spot is elusive.

It was more discomfort than pain. The only time I had pain was after I had some broth (which caused more swelling) and I had to spit my saliva out. If you have ever slimed before, it was like that after I had the broth, but I didn't have anything to PB because I hadn't had solids yet. I was more afraid than anything else really because I felt like I was completely closing up and I didn't know how to make the swelling go down. I finally decided to try taking tiny sips of ice cold Water followed by spitting out my saliva. And, eventually the cold Water did bring the swelling down enough that I could sleep and swallow my own saliva.

Are your burps big and come freely or do you gurgle and make tiny burps for 5+ minutes after a sip of water? For me, I was gurgling and making tiny burps for 5+ minutes after having just a sip of water. It was the most incredibly annoying thing ever.

Oh gosh this all sounds so scary. I go in next week for another fill I am t 7 now, and I know when you get up in those numbers you get close to restriction. I'm glad you got it fixed and worked out.

I have no restriction and feel like I could eat a horse, so I want to get filled well so I don't eat too much and mess up all my weight loss. but I really don't want to have to get too full that I am in pain.

i also just had an overfill episode - exactly like adagays

1 cc on tuesday afteroon - by 7pm i couldn't get a sip of Protein shake down without gurgling by 11pm - trying to laydown for bed - i couldn't swallow my saliva.

called the bat line for my surgeon and was in this morning for an unfill of the full 1cc

once swelling goes down we'll try again .1cc at a time but we both felt i was within the sweet spot range and we were trying to manage my timeframes between meals/hunger

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
