Will it always hurt to burp? (not PB, just burp)

Recommended Posts

I've heard some folks say they don't burp at all, so i'm delighted to be among the burpers!! It sure does hurt, though!! I'm only a week postop, and the pain of burping isn't getting any better. I'm wondering, if down the road, after fills and restriction... will it still hurt to burp? Thanks!!!

I think it does get better. I 'm two weeks post op now and the burps are definitely better - but the first week was rough...they hurt SO badly. So, give it a little time, and you should start to feel better soon.

I'm a little over 3 weeks post op now, and the pain is gone for me. Thank God for that...since I seem to burp ALL THE TIME! :)

OMG, I didn't know the burps would be so painful. I'm 4 days post-op and the burps hurt like heck! Can wait for that to improve.

Aaaah! SO good to know. I'm one week post and the burps/random hiccups are evil!

My surgeon keeps asking if I'm farting like a Trojan yet... but I think I've gotten outta that one. Whew!

I had the same problem. My doctor advised me to take Ibuprofen to reduce the swelling. It is not something you want to make a habit of because Ibuprofen is corrosive. And, I would definitely talk to your doctor before trying it. But, it really helped with the progress of my healing as well. Good luck to you.:smile2:

When I feel a burp I ease it out just to make sure it doesn't hurt too bad. I am three weeks post-op. I pass alot of gas too regardless of what I eat. I find it hard to believe it is still me finding ways to let out the CO2 from the op.

Either way, both remind me that I have my band and how happy I am that it is there.

I was banded about 2 weeks ago and I am burping ALOT too! LOL The worst pain was the week of the surgery. Now, its not too bad. The pain is easing up as time goes.

Its fine to burp when I am at home and I can just let it out but when I am at work, man, that is uncomfortable. Luckily, I work with alot of great people so when one just came out they laughed and asked if I felt better. which I sure did!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
