Hey there I was banded a week ago. I am feeling really well. I did have horrible gas pains along with nausea and left shoulder pain. I promise it gets better. I remember thinking to myself for a split second that I could not believe I did this (getting the band) on purpose. It will get better. Keep your eye on the prize!!!

Dblex,

Sorry your are in pain...I just had my surgery today, and no cramps, but I have so much PRESSURE it feels like an elephant is sitting on my chest/abdomen. The pressure is worse when I am sitting, but feels better when my body is either laid out straight or standing up. I am guessing that the pressure is from the gas, but it is more than I expected. Almost no pain from the incision sites...or maybe the pain meds are keeping those at bay

I does go away- I thought for the first couple weeks that I had made a significant mistake because of how miserable I was. I was sooo tired and in so much pain that I wanted it out! Seemed like 2 weeks to the day after surgery I woke up and all was well. I finally slept all through the night which was somthing I had not been doing and the gas pains were finally moving on as well. I'm 9 weeks post op now and I'm doing great, my band is my "buddy" that I rely on day today! hope you feel better soon. Best wishes

I had ripping/tearing pain where my port incision is. I was in soooo much pain. I suggest you take your pain meds and Gas-x. It does help. I think you'll feel better in about a week. At least I hope so!

I was banded on Tuesday and I too have the chest pain. It feels like someone is sitting on my chest.

Anyone else experience this and have any hints on how to reduce the pain other than pain meds which keep me loopy?

The pain in the port area is slowly goin away and its easier to move around. Now, if i could just get over the chest pain.

Thanks for any advice in advance!

I can only lay on my sides. I find it hard to breath laying on my back for some reason. Maybe all that bloating and pressure in my chest.....

Feel a bit better after my 8oclock dose of meds

I also had that same pain and was wondering why the heck I even had the band in. But three weeks on and I feel really good. The pain went after about 2 weeks.

Ditto this - walk, walk, walk. I was up and walking in the hospital within a few hours of recovery and the Bariatric Coordinator at my hospital told me to walk regularly at home too. She advised a block to start with for the first two days after surgery and then adding a a block on day three and continuing that objective of adding a block every two days. I'm up to 11 blocks now and can vouch for this really addressing gas pains in a significant way. Good luck.

Do as much walking as you can. It helps trust me!!!!

The pain passes.. Like any other surgery-- your body needs to heal.. I slept almost the entire day after the surgery.

I know it sounds crazy to walk when your in pain, but believe me IT WORKS! Feb 22nd I had gall blatter removed. Doc told me to walk, because you get the same gas pains, shoulder pain, and tightness in chest. Well I did very little walking after surgery, cause I'm sure if Dr new my pain level, he would not want me to walk.(wrong) Anyways it took along time to recover. Those gas pains would not go away!! Now after be banded on april 29, I feel great. I listened to the wonderful people who post on here. I have been taking four 15 min. walks a day, and Gas X strips. It has only been a wk. since surgery, and I feel great. I hope you feel better soon!

I found that sucking on lollipops really helped with the nausea.

Courage, hon, this really WILL pass! I echo the other posters that your best ally will be getting up and walking...I almost wore a path in the carpeting of my hallway those first few days! The pressure in your chest is partially from swelling at the surgical site and partially from the gas rising from your abdomen to sit under your diaphragm, but both are temporary. A week from now, you should feel much better. If not, it's worth a call to your surgeon, if only for reassurance.

Another thing I found helpful with nausea is to get the Ginger Altoids...suck on them, don't chew...ginger is a well-known homeopathic remedy.

Good luck- and welcome to Banderland!

Christine

YES, it does get better! That said, you are doing a good job of listening to your body. Do walk, try those Ginger altoids (didn't know that, about ginger as homeopathic remedy!) and be patient with yourself. I was banded on April 22 and I was absolutely miserable for the first day or so--it was worse than a hernia op about three years ago by far!--but it is much better now.

Meanwhile, think about this: the surgery gives you a new chance to learn to LISTEN to your body. I am finding that is one of the things I desperately need to do, and for me, recovery got easier when I started to listen to my body's calls for naps, walking gently, and taking it easy. You WILL feel better!

Good luck to you, keep your chin up!

Nancy

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
