Waiting for my Surgery Date

Recommended Posts

I have been through all of my pre op appointments and I am just waiting for my surgery date. The point of this post is to ask a series of different questions. I was hoping that those of you who have been through this can answer them

First of all I am a 385 pound male and i am about 6'2". I was wondering how visible the fill port is. I hope that after I lose some weight I will be comfortable not wearing a shirt again and I don"t want to look funny.

Second what is the likely hood that I will need reconstructive surgery for excess skin, this may be a good question for the guys?

I feel pretty comfortable with everything else but these are just some questions that I can't get a good answer on.

Thank you to anyone who can help.

Hello, the consultant at the clinic that I went to is about 5'4" and started at 346, she is now 140. She let me touch the port on her abdomen to see how it felt. If she hadn't shown me where it was I wouldn't have known except for the scar that is there from the incision. I believe she had a Tummy Tuck but i didn't ask. When I was much thinner 20 years ago and had a baby I was left with sagging skin that will always be there unless I have it fixed. My highest weight at 5"3" was about 190. Hope this helps.

Lena

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
