Good Morning All,

I have to decided that I want to have the lapbad done. I have an appointment scheduled with my PCP for tomorrow. I'm just wondering is there anything I should ask or say to her. I am trying to have my insurance pay for it.

Thanks

Make sure that she documents your weight, any medical issues related to your weight, BMI, reccomendations for weight loss etc. I have Horizen Blue Cross of NJ and they required a 6 month medically supervised diet with weigh ins monthly. I wish I had started this prior to consulting with my surgeon. It would have saved me the 6 month wait. Good Luck! I am SO happy that I made this decision!

Banded 3/5/10 350lb

Current 5/4/10 315lb (-35lb)

Hi welcome. It's reasonable to ask if she has any patients who've had the lap band, and what her experience has been. Don't be afraid if she has no or limited experience. My PCP did not, but that was 4 years ago; she was willing to learn with me. You should ask if there is a local surgeon she recommends. Also it's great if you are prepared to talk about your goals in terms of your health, weight and quality of life.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
