Port Incision Question

Recommended Posts

I am a little over 3 months out. All of my incisions have been closed since about 3-4 weeks out. I had a c-section in Oct. 2004 and didn't have this problem.

Every now and then I have a pain around my port site, I figured it was just nerves growing back but in the past day or two I have noticed black dots appearing in the line of my incision. Sunday I went to a car show and was hurting most of the day. I know not to sunbath an incision during the first year even though it was sunny I naturally had my shirt on so it's not a sunburn.

Kinda hard to describe I know...

I also had one incision that had a black dot on it.. it was a big black dot, well big enough to cover half the incision.. Im not sure if it is the same thing.. but 7months out now it is starting to fade. You might want to call your Dr. and just ask. There are also a lot of nurses here that might be able to help, I would also I like to know what it is.

I had the port pain off and on, as I think most do, during the healing process, but I never saw any black dots. Like Trish said, might want to phone the doctors office and be sure all is well.

It could be thread from your internal stitches. Sometimes it doesn't disolve all the way. The thread my surgeon used was clear but when I had a lump removed from my breast a few years ago, they used Navy blue-ish thread and a few come to the surface and looked pretty weird.

I know that the threads he used were also clear as a couple of them were sticking out of my incisions.

I'm not too worried about it just thought it was weird enough to mention. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
