Hi everyone!

My name is Felisha and I am 20 years old. My husband is Michael and he is 23 currently in the US Army deployed to Iraq. We have a son and he is 9mo old.

I have been thinking about getting lapband surgery and after several long talks with my husband I think it is the right choice for me.

I went to talk to my PCD today and she pointed me in the right direction. I found a lapband facility that will help me with my journey.

My insurance will only approve me if I have any other health issues besides being 100lbs over weight. So I have a full physical scheduled for Friday. I got in a car accident 3 years ago and my back/left hip is in CONSTANT pain. 10/10 every day. My DR said that because I live "day to day" and "get around fine" that will not qualify me under my insurance. My mother has sleep apnia(sp) so I'm going to have them schedule me for a sleep study. I'm hoping I can get qualified because my husband and I can not afford it otherwise, and the facility here doesn't offer financial aid.

Anyway, I joined to read success stories and getting advice.

How high is your BMI? Did they tell you that you needed more then just a high BMI?

My BMI is 44. I weigh 240 and am 5'2.

What my dr and the insurance website:

Is 100 pounds over ideal weight for height and bone structure and has one of these associated conditions: diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cholecystitis, narcolepsy, Pickwickian syndrome, hypothalamic disorders or severe arthritis of the weight-bearing joints

I have perfect blood pressure, and do not have diabetes.. sigh.

This is sad, But I'm hoping something gets flagged on my physical so I can get the surgery.

Wow thats unfortunate! Most insurances will cover it if its over 40 bmi.

Good luck with everything and if nothing shows up, have you considering going to Mexico for the surgery?

With my husband being deployed, And no family near me and no one to really go with me I'm not sure I could do that or afford it.

We just bought a house so we're strapped for cash at the moment.

The military is VERY strict with what they approve and don't approve.

I'm hoping I can convince some people to allow it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
