No I'm not brave enough to go out of country, I'm going to False Creek in Vancouver, B.C. I do have to fly there, and will fly

back home the day after surgery. Hope I'm not being too

ambitious - flight is already booked!!::smile:

Hello everyone!

My name is Katie and I'm scheduled for banding on May 17th (and I can't wait for it!) It was really a hassle trying to get all the paperwork to my insurance company, but when we finally got everything in to be submitted, they approved it within 24 hours! I had to call my primary care physician every day, twice a day and leave minute long voicemails for a month before he got my letter written for the insurance company. And then they decided they wanted three years worth of records for my BMI, so that meant calling his nurses twice a day, every day for another week. Sigh.

I had my EGD two days ago and found out I have a hernia (caused by excessive abdominal fat, as my surgeon put it) that may cause some difficulties but they will proceed with surgery. You know, I understand that I'm having the surgery because I'm overweight, and that the insurance company is paying for it because they consider me morbidly obese, but I still don't like being told how fat I am at every appointment. It's a little hard sometimes to keep positive about the surgery when I feel like my surgeon is crushing my self esteem at every turn.

But whatever! I'm looking forward to getting to know you all over the course of our journey together!

Best Wishes!

Katie

Hi Katie,

I am afraid I will have the same problem with my doctor too.It took me 3 weeks just to get him to sign for a free flue shot from work.I more then likely will have to make an appointment to get it done.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
