Well, my surgery is May 6th. Met with the surgeon yesterday. Didn't like him at all. He was rude. Told me the 25 pounds I lost with the dietician didn't count. Says I need to lose 30 pounds. In 2 weeks!!! give me a break. I think he glanced at me twice and never cracked a smile. He's asian and I had to keep asking him to repeat things. I think that upset him.

Kept telling me I was rationalizing for not losing the 10% of my weight. The truth was, I thought I had lost 25 of the 30 that was required. He said it was too long ago. Excuse me!! it was Jan and Feb. I'm going to do the best I can in the next 2 weeks on the pre op. I have to go see him and get weighed the day before surgery. He'll let me know then if he's going to do the surgery. Any body lost 30 pounds on the pre op?? Wish me luck!

You have a long road ahead of you with the surgery, post-op, achieving and maintaining restriction, etc. You don't necessarily have to like your doc but you need to be able to work with him.... Do your best to follow his guidance but if you think you're going to have a clash of personalities and constantly be struggling with him, you may want to step back and consider using someone else.

Just a thought, and good luck with everything!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
