I just went to a seminar last night. I took my 14 year old son along as my support person. He is indeed very supportive. My husband had gone out of town and he's been against this procedure since I mentioned it to him. I've sent him links to information, studies, statistics. I've had friends who have had the procedure write him to tell them what a difference it has made in their lives. I know this is something I need to do for me, but it sure would be helpful to have his support in this. I'm also nervous about getting all this documentation. I've been at my current PCP for almost 3 years but didn't have a real PCP for many years before then. I did go to one of those clinics that does the diet pills off and on for a couple of years before going to this PCP so I am hoping that I can get some weight documentation from them to cover the years of documented obesity and weight loss attempts and that will be sufficient to get approval. I have a BMI of 41 with hypertension, sleep apnea, depression, and joint issues. I am thinking that should get me approval as long as I can get the rest of the documentation.

Welcome to the board, karmaandkismet! I think you will find lots of information and experience on the board- I know I have.

It is helpful having a supportive husband, but not essential. You might want to ask him what he's afraid of if you get the band and lose weight.

Anyhow, I wish you courage with this journey. I'm still in the pre-op phase myself, just waiting for approval and a date.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
