Lapband dr's office bad customer service....

Recommended Posts

I went for my lap-band® consult about 6 weeks ago. I had heard that United-health care approval process was rather fast so after 2 weeks I called UHC to find out that I was approved!! :thumbup:I am happy and very excited but that became very short lived once I tried for over a week to get in touch my advocate. After a dozen messages and hunting her down I was finally able to make my pre-op appointment which was 3 days later. That was 2 weeks ago and I still do not have a surgery date! Everyone that was in my group at the pre-op appointment had a surgery date but me! :mad2:I have called, and called and called. The surgery scheduler is always either not in the office, super busy or tells me she would call me the next day!!! (which still hasn't come) I am beyond pissed and am now questioning should I even have the surgery anymore? If so should I go with this doctor since his office is god awful? My insurance is thru my husbands work and everyone that has had the LAP-BAND® there has gone to one doctor that is closer and I hear is wonderful but I really don't want to have to go thru that process all over again. I don't know how long should I wait to call this doctors office and tell them to shove it since they don't want my business! Is this normal to have to wait this long to get a surgery date after everything is taken care of but that? I know that I am really upset and venting about my situation but I had to tell some people who would know what I am going thru so any advice that anyone could give me would be great appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi:

Please call the other Lap Band surgeon's office. Your relationship with your LapBand doctor's office is a long one because of all of the follow up. If they're not cooperative now they'll probably be problematic in the future. It may cause a short delay, but you'll be glad that you switched.

Best wishes to you with your band. I love mine!

Sue

This is different from most surgeries in that your relationship with the surgeon is long-term.

You need to be with a group that meets your needs--because you will be relying on them forever.

The rate your current group is working, seeing another doctor will not slow down the process markedly.

All that said, 6 weeks is on the far low end of wait time for a date. I know you're impatient--we all were! But you will be banded---and soon!

good luck

Call the other doctor's office and explain what your going through..... If they take you and make you an appointment in a heart beat go and see what your options are at this stage of the game. That's what I did when my 1st surgeon's office blew me off after being approved and the office manager treated me like crap. Come to find out they did this to many of their patients after I looked into it...... So I switched surgeons and I coulldn't be happier. It only took me weeks to get my band - They even let me pick the date I wanted since I waited so long.... Due to my mistreatment from the other doctor's office. Do what feels right - you have choices and if something in your head and heart tells you something is not right - run don't walk from this doctor's office. Best to you.

There are only two girls that work at my drs office. It takes awhile for the girl I deal with to do what she says, but I usually just send a reminder to her through email and she gets it done that day, which is fine with me.

If your not happy with the service , call the other office and see what they can do for you!

Thank you to everyone for you input. I contacted my advocate this morning and she said that she would see whats going on, but as I stated in my post she was difficult to get a hold of for a while herself. I told her that I needed a call back TODAY or not to call me at all. I will contact the other surgeon tomorrow and see what they can do for me. Being patient is not one of my best quailities but I take for granted that when some tells me that they are going to do something that they actually do it. If she would have told me that she could get me a surgery date for two weeks or a month I would have been fine but dont tell me you are going to call me tomorrow and then never call!!

Thanks again you guys for listening to me vent! I will keep you posted on whats going on.

Stefani

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
