going for 1st fill

Recommended Posts

I'll be getting my 1st fill on friday the 18th. I'm not worried about the needle but I am worried about being to tight and throwing up, any suggestions?

It all depends. More than likely, they will be conservative. I felt some restriciton, but not much at all on my 1st fill. EVERYONE is different, so you'll just have to see how it is for you. You should have liquids for about a day (dr.'s differ widely on this!), then mushies, then regular food. Take each stage slow and easy, and test the waters. You'll soon decide what you can tolerate. I just got my 2nd fill last Thursday, and there is a HUGE difference between #1 and #2, for me. And for now. Sorry, I don't have any definitive info for you...it just depends, and you can judge by all our individual responses what might fit for you. Good luck! Cindy

I too am scared about getting my 1st fill and it is today. I will be leaving here soon. I hope it is just right, don't want to be too tight or not restricted enough. I have not lost any weight and have gained about 5 lbs in the last several weeks, eat too much.

Please wish me luck, I do love my band!!

I had my first fill yesterday. It was truly uneventful, like everyone was saying! This is how it went. Know that each surgeon has their own technique.

1) Laid back on table, pillow at the small of my back.

2) Put a small "stick" with a needle to numb the area (with Lidocaine)

3) Had me "pooch" out my stomach and make a muscle.

4) Nurse was standing by my head with a cup of Water and straw.

5) Dr. told me to begin drinking and he began to inject the saline into my band (I couldn't feel it).

6) As I continued to drink, I was to tell him when I felt like the Water would "back up" or not go down.

7) Eventually at 1.8 cc, I told him to "stop"

8) I sat up on the table and felt like I had a piece of chicken stuck.

9) He had me lay back down and took some saline out. He backed it up to 1.0 cc.

10) That's it, I ended up with a 1.0 cc fill. Although, he felt he could have gone to 1.2cc, but I'd rather be conservative.

Well I'm back and it went well. I now have 3.5 cc in my Swedish 11 cc band. I laid back and he asked me to do a sit up kind of and then he inserted the needle, then I laid back down, filled me up and had me sit up and drink a little Water, he came back in and I told him I could fill it going down slowly. He then said to sip slowly and stay on liquids till Monday.

So far so good with my first fill, I just hope and pray it will be a good one and I will have a lot of great success with it.

It was a piece of cake. Good luck with yours on Friday!

Shelley

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
