How do you know if your band has slipped?

Recommended Posts

I woke up this morning, after vomiting alot last nite, to a pain in my upper stomach. It wasn't an upset stomach, it felt like there was something wrong in there. I was lying in bed, imagining what I'd have to go thru if my band slipped. I know no one where I live (I'm new to this area) and my docs office is 3 hrs away. My brother in law came up from Sacramento to take me to my surgery and stayed for a week afterwards. They won't let me drive home if I have to have surgery again.

It's not hurting now, it lasted about 6 hrs. I had steak for dinner tonite - a usual "stuck" food, while I was in a little pain, I didn't get stuck on it tonite.

How do you know if you've slipped your band and is it dangerous?

It's my understanding that if your band slips, you can't hold anything down. Since you held down dinner, you probably don't have a slip. However, you may want to call your doctor and report your experience. Only he/she can say for sure.

My suggestion would be to stay away from steak. I can't even eat that. And if you were stuck for 6 hours, not so good either. After you get stuck you should do liquids for the rest of the day because you could be a little swollen and sore.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
