Another "am I too tight?" post

Recommended Posts

I apologize in advance for another post asking if I am too tight but I need some advice and some technical explanation, if possible.

I was banded January 25 and had my third fill two days ago. Before I left the appointment I realized I was too tight (from drinking water) so the nurse took .5 cc out, leaving me with 4.5 ccs in a 12 cc band. That night I drank a Protein shake and took all my Vitamins with no problems. The next morning, I think a Vitamin got stuck because I threw up some of them almost immediately after the second swallow. Got to work, tried some coffee (usual routine) and if felt stuck before coming back up. This continued all day long, with every liquid I tried. Third day has been the same. Any advice?

I don't understand why this is happening - if it was a case of swelling and irritation around my stomach, the stoma wouldn't be closed, right? So why does it feel like these liquids are sitting in my throat? I can't even keep liquid Motrin down. I plan to go in Monday for a slight unfill but I need some suggestions for getting through the next day and a half!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can give!

(Tracker is wrong but don't know how to update it!)

Are you taking only chewable vits?

The only chewable I'm using is the Multivitamin - my surgeon said that I shouldn't have trouble with any pills. BUT...at this point, I am going to look for chewable or liquid options for anything I take. This is miserable!

My surgeon freaked me out by telling me about a lady that got a pill stuck and had to have surgery to get unstuck. He told me that no pill is small enough. I only take things that are chewable, liquid, or sublingual.< /p>

I know many bansters have to take Rx meds, but many of those can be made in other forms as well.

I just figure if we have to chew our food so well, I see the Dr.'s point about no pill being small enough.

Roxy,

If you can't keep liquids down, you'll need to call your surgeon's office soon for instruction on whether they can meet you or you need to go to the ER.

Dehydration is nothing to mess with. If you can get Water down it can wait, but if not, CALL.

I've gotten pills stuck before, and it sux. They can very much irritate the stoma.

I hope you are feeling better soon!

I agree with cocoa..... are you still stuck? Can you drink fluids now?

Thanks for the responses! Yesterday I kept Fluid down and the same today. But I have to take tiny sips with several minutes between sips. I'm pretty sure I'm not dehydrated, but I think I'll still try to get some fluid taken out tomorrow. I guess this is just part of being adjustable but sometimes it's tough! I must've been closer to my green zone/sweet spot than I realized and this was just too much. Any advice on how long I should stay on fluids?

I'd take it very slow. Maybe try very thin protien shake or a protien Water to get some nutrition in.

I know when I've had baaad stuck episodes I'll take it easy for a few days. I just go by how my stomach is feeling. Take a sip of shake and give it a bit, see how it goes.

The less you put in, the less that will want to come up if it isn't good. The less trauma.

I've found a stuck pill is VERY irritating. I am not sure if it is that it starts to disolve while jammed in the stoma or what, but things can stay tender for a few days.

When I was overfilled once, I went back and had half the fill removed, it was instant relief. A month later I was back for a fill. I had the unfill and then some put in. Strange how it works out that way sometimes!

*Update* I went in on Monday (after four days of barely keeping Fluid down) and she removed half of what my fill had been on the previous Thursday. (removed .5 cc, leaving me at 4 cc now) It's AMAZING what a huge difference that little bit of saline makes! I stayed on liquid for 24 hours and have been back to normal since then. Unfortunately, I don't feel as restricted as I did prior to my fill. I know it changes for me so I'm going to be patient to see what the next few weeks bring. So I'm learning about the "adjustability" part of the band, and even though those four days were awful, I still love my band BECAUSE it IS adjustable! :(

Have a good weekend, all!

So glad you are feeling better.

After things heal up, you can go back and get another fill. As I said before, I was back a month after my unfill getting a refill. Go figure.

That's the level I am now, and have been for several months.

Hi all,

I've been banded for two and a half years. I just got a fill on Wed and haven't had one in a year. I know I am tight, I am taking small sips and have been on liquids but it is staying down and not coming up. However, I am uncomfortable and getting upper back pain after I take sipps (water, coffee, shake). Does this happen to anyone else? Do you know why?

Since I havent had a fill in awhile I thought maybe I forgot but I dont remember these uncomfortable feelings before. Thanks in advance!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
