I am needing some advice, but need it from someone who has their port in their shoulder area.

I was banded on March 12th and my port is located in my shoulder area- between my breast and my arm pit.

I am 5 weeks postop but it still hurts at night when I lay on it and I needed to know if this is normal.

If nobody has had it placed there, I will have to call my surgeon and ask them, but I just thought if I could have the question answered on here, it would save time and I wouldn't bother them.

Thanks!

That is so interesting! I never knew that a port could be placed in that region. I'll be interested to know what you find out!

Cold things commonly do this band or no band. Its just an extension of the ice cream headache.

I dont eat cold stuff, even if I pour myself an OJ in the morning, I leave it out to warm up for 20 minutes.

Port wise, OMG, the shoulder? I dont like the thought of that at ALL. I'm very much your typical pear shape and believe me, there is NO spare flesh above my waist at all. You can see all the muscles in my shoulders and back, and a port there would look like a huge tumour, and it would be uncomfortable becuase it would be covered by no flesh. The only place on my torso where I have enough is the most common place for the port anyway - a bit to the left above my belly button.

The one between the breasts appalls me too, I'm very bony there, and it would be very obvious and uncomfortable (you can see my port as it is, only my belly). I really dont know why surgeons put them there, because many women ARE pears and many will get fairly thin on their upper bodies following weight loss.

I could hide about 40 ports on my bum, of course, lol.

I never heard of someones port being there, how odd. I wonder why he put it there. With that being said, I will tell you I had port pain for a while after surgery. I was starting to think something was wrong, It finely passed and doesn't bother me a bit now and as far as cold things I can't do them I also drink everything at room temp. and in the mornings I have to have something hot like coffee or tea to loosen me up before something else will go down.

P.S. I want to be a pear! I hate being an apple so wide up top and no bum or hips to speak of. My DD is only 5lbs lighter then me and looks way smaller, She's a pear and has a great figure. She sure didn't get it from my side of the family LOL

My port is in that region. Mine is actually at the top of my left breast and little toward the arm pit. I love my port being there and it makes fills so easy. I had port pain for about 2 months after surgery and then one day I realized that it just didn't hurt anymore. That area gets tender sometimes still and I'm a year post op. Good luck on your journey. I've lost about 80lbs and only have about 30lbs left to go.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
