after surgery exercise

Recommended Posts

Hello I am hoping for surgery in May or June. I am an active softball player ( 4 nights a week ) and my surgeon said I will be able to resume playing shortly (within the week ) after surgery. I would like to ask all of you who have had surgery, what is the likely hood of that? Do you suggest it? I have a high pain tolerance but I am concerned of it slipping or doing damage. Thanks in advance for all your much appreciated advise.

Julie

I walked 2 miles day after surgery. Was on my stationary bike after 3 days. Back in the pool after 7 days. Only restriction I had was that I could not lift anything over 25 lbs. Yes I believe you could be playing within a week.

Banded 3/23/10

Weight 427

Current weight 336

I felt pretty crappy for the first 3-4 days after surgery. By the end of the week, though, I felt great. My doctor doesn't clear anyone for real exercise until the 2-week post-op visit-- and at that time I started back very regularly and with some intensity (group exercise, running, etc.)

How people feel after surgery varies widely-- you just never know how you're gonna feel until after. So you'll have to play it by ear and listen to your body.

My doc is pretty conservative......he dosn't give the go ahead to resume exercise for 4 weeks. He allows walking untill then

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
