Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

So i just seen my pcm today. and he put in for my referral to get the lap band surgery. he told me that i am a good candidate but that i have to wait for my approval to come in the mail so i can if im approved start with the surgery process. I was basically wondering what tests are taken once i know if im going to get the surgery? and also i heard there is a sleep apnea test. i dont think i have that but how is that test done? im just curious about that. Also i have insurance through my husband hes in the navy so i have tricare prime i believe does anyone know if they require a 6 month diet or if they just approve you and you get pre op work done? thanks everyone for any info and answers.

Hi Renee~

I just had my Lap Band surgery last week with Tricare (Marine Corps). Tricare does not require a 6 month pre-op diet. If you have any questions fill free to ask me. The whole process was very easy for me. Tricare approved everything (all my pre-op requirements, surgery, etc.) very quickly. It took me just under 4 months from start to finish (Getting my referral from PCM to surgery), but that's because me Lap Band doctor is very thorough. I personally did not have to do a sleep apnea test, but my doctor decides on a case to case basis (usually he makes people get them, so I was shocked when I didn't have to).

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
