I think pancakes was a bad idea.....

Recommended Posts

I have been craving pancakes for a couple of months now. After church today, I went out for Breakfast and ordered some. I ate about 4 bites, was in extreme pain and had to go to the ladies room to vomit. I'm really good about eating in public, I always eat slowly so I don't have to get sick. But today was a must. A lady in the restroom asked if I was sick - of course I said "I think so", I didn't want to go into the long sordid story about WHY I wasn't sposed to be eating pancakes in the first place!

Lesson learned. But those 4 bites were awfully good!

Blessings!

I crave them too. The closest thing to a bread-type food that I have tried so far is a Wheat Thin. Actualy, I did try an enchilada and had no problem. I ordered the (2) enchilada plate and ate (1) and took the other one home for lunch the next day. I can't believe how little I am able to eat anymore. I love it!

I have been craving french toast -- and I know that I will never be able to eat them again - it makes me very sad

I feel your pain. I tried pancakes a few months back, staying w/n the serving size, no butter and ff Syrup. All set to have something I REALLY craved. The first bite went down a little hard, the second bite was damn painful. Needless to say, I will never consume pancakes again.

I just think of all the wonderful clothes I'll be able to wear over the summer and pancakes are a distant memory.

Before surgery, my surgeon told me that I should be able to eat anything when I moved to regular foods as long as I ate it correctly; eat slowly and chew it well enough.

I don't want to go without the occasional pancake or french toast for the rest of my life. I haven't had my first fill yet, but so far, I have been able to eat everything I've tried by following my surgeons instructions.

Please, say it isn't so!

Does this happen after you start getting fills? I have not gotten any fills yet, but have been on solids for about a week and half. Ive eaten bread...just a little because im scared..but things have been ok. Will I not be able to have it when I get a fill?

I totally understand. I can't have any type of bread anymore. I was still able to eat breads after my 1st fill (I would get stuck if I took more than a couple bites) but after my 2nd I have yet to be able to even eat a tortilla, one bite and I'm in pain.

I'm on fill #2, not at perfect restriction and had a french toast stick incident the other morning - yeah, stuck isn't fun, to say the least.

So, no more french toasts sticks but that's okay. I want to be thin more.

not to laugh at your expense.. but bet you dont crave those pancakes anymore!!!!!!!!! My uncle who has had lap band done about 2 years ago.. told me -- if you ever have a craving that you can't get rid of-- go eat whatever that craving is... once you get sick on it.. that craving is gone!

Had the same experience with pancakes that my partner made, even on one fill they were very too hard to eat! I guess there is a reason for that though! Hey guys how do you get those cute bmi/weight trackers on your messages they are so cute!

I can eat pancakes. So long as I eat them slowly and chew well they don't cause me any problems. I had some last week for Breakfast whilst on holiday with friends that don't know i'm banded!

Just remember that any food can cause a problem it doesn't mean you can't eat it again. The band is fickle. For instance I almost always eat a poached egg on wholemeal toast for Breakfast with no problem. This morning it just wouldn't go down. I got about half way and had to PB because it was so uncomfortable and had a drinking yogurt instead. That doesn't mean I can't eat eggs on toast anymore.

sorry but your post made me lol and not because you had to go through what you did but I too crave pancakes, waffles, french toast anything with bread but am scared ch it less to try any of these in a restaurant for fear of what may happen, I mean its one thing to have an "episode" at home so I don't know what I would do if I had to have one in a public restroom. :frown:Thanks for convincing me not to try any of these when I am out.

It all depends on how tight you have your band. I keep mine a little on the loose side because I WANT to be able to eat foods that I love, and I do eat them; I just eat less of it. I have had IHOP pancakes, I just eat one instead of 3. Last night I had pizza. I ate 2 pieces from a 10 inch instead of 3 o4 4 pieces from a large. It is possible to eat the foods that you love, if your band isn't very tight.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
