I was told by the xray tech that the black area was my stomach. Is this right? And if so...is it supposed to be behind my boob and is my band in the right place? I have to drive a few hours to get the xray looked at, in a couple weeks. So I am just anxious for now.

Also, when I layed down, the xray looks like my port and band almost meet, seems strange to me. :frown:

and here is my gnarly realize band's port hooks

and now laying down:

Yeah, your stomach is definitely not where they said it was. Under your boob is your ribcage and lungs. I think they need to go back to medical school lol.

Believe it or not mine looks that way too. I have bronchitus and had a chest x ray the other day. My PCP pointed to the band and a dark space above it and said that's your stomach. I would have thought my stomach would be below that. I'm not having any problems with my band though so I guess I'll take her word for it!

check this out: a surgeon shows everything under fluoroscopy and the part of the stomach that we think should be under the band is really above and to the side of it. Very interesting. I think we're normal! LOL

A lot of diagrams show the stomach sort of hanging below the band. In the body, it's a more lateral arrangement---sideways instead of up-down.

Also, position of organs really changes a LOT depending on position, contents, and so on....I really wouldn't stress.

There is a HUGE range of normal. Everyone's insides fit in that space a little differently.

As you lose weight, things will change even more. You've heard of visceral fat, right? That's the stuff surrounding our organs. As that is lost, things will shift. (Also, our risks of obesity-related diseases will plummet.)

Leroyspuds .. Thanks for the link to the video.

I don't want to hijack this thread but now I'm concerned because my surgeon doesn't use fluoroscopy for fills. I haven't had my first fill yet and now I'm really worried.

While I'm really glad mine does use fluoroscopy, Drasan, I don't think you need to be overly concerned that your doctor does not use it. A skilled doctor can help you gauge your "tightness" while you're in the office--with or without fluoro.

The tricky part comes after--because until you get to know what your body does after a fill, not even the doctor who uses fluoro 100% of the time can predict with certainty whether you'll experience swelling, etc. Even my brilliant doctor with his fluoro can only see what he sees when I'm in his office. What happens later is anyone's guess!

I can pretty much guarantee you that your doctor, even if he does not routinely use fluoro, has the ability to do so if a real need arises. If you're otherwise comfortable with him, I wouldn't stress about this.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
