I'm just wondering, how long from the time you got your insurance approval until the surgery was scheduled? My insurance approved me on March 8th. The surgeons office told me to start my pre-op diet on March 12th but today is the 17th and they still have not called me to give me a date! Now I am getting frustrated. I started this prosses on Sept. 23, 2009 and had a 6 month waiting period mandated by my insurance company.

The policy at my surgeon's office is that you must have your insurance authorization in your possession for at least 5 business days before calling and bugging the office to schedule your surgery. (I guess this is to prevent people from calling incessantly.) Anyways, I impatiently waited the 5 days before calling the office and they told me that they had not received the authorization yet... after a few days of calling, faxing, and waiting... I finally got the call back from the office to schedule my surgery. All together, I had my authorization in my hand for 3 weeks before I was able to actually schedule the surgery.

rldm,

I received my insurance approval letter on 3/15/10. I called the surgeon's office the next day and they said that they had received theirs too so they scheduled my surgery for 4/6/10, so it was about 3 weeks in between.

My surgeon's office has you start your pre-op diet when they submit everything to the insurance so you will be ready to schedule when you are approved. Good luck with yours!

I wouldn't think you would be doing the pre-op diet without a date?

Hey Sue,

My surgeon lets you start your pre-op diet when they submit your paperwork to your insurance company so when they get the approval you don't have to wait so long. I guess if you didn't get approved you would have done it for nothing! I actually started my pre-op diet on 3/8/10 and was not approved until 3/15/10. Good luck to you!!!

Mimi368,

That is a very good idea. I have waited a little over 2 months after my approval, but I wasn't done with some of the testing.

Good luck to us!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
