Pre-op diet side effects

Recommended Posts

I started my preop diet this past Friday. Today is Sunday and I cannot get warm. My hands feel like ice and I am walking around with a sweater on and still feel cool. Has anyone else every experienced this on the pre-op diet.

Rita, Yes when I am consuming a very low calorie count I am cold. When I get my calories back up around 1000 I am not so cold. I just sit around under my blanket, wear a sweater at all times and have several pair of super thick socks that I wear when I have my shoes off. Sorry to tell you this, however, I promise the being cold in exchange for being thinner is a great trade.

It seems that I am always cold now. A couple of days after I started the pro-op diet I felt cold. I am hoping it will continue during the hot summer!

I am freezing!!! I started my pre-op diet last Thursday and I can't seem to get warm. What is worse is that it has snowed the last two days!

My only good thought is that if I stay this cold, I may have a comfortable summer here in NM!

Drasan, you took the words right out of my mouth (well, fingertips)!

Between the slower metabolism that comes with loss and reduced intake, the loss of insulation, and the estrogen released during fat loss (body fat is mildly estrogenic), I think I'm slated for the easiest perimenopause in human history :laugh::tongue2:

I'm chuckling at the menopause hot flash commentary. LOL! I'm still fairly hot all the time, except at night. They did tell us during our nutrition class that once you start losing a lot of your weight, you'll start to be cold a lot. I don't know if that will ever happen to me. HA HA. My husband SWEARS I'm going through menopause at 33. I'm hot 24/7. (I hate to even wear a coat!)

My worst side-effect of the pre-op diet so far was the headaches the first week. Those were KILLING me. I thought my head was going to explode. But, they're a lot better, now and my date is next Monday. Can't wait!

Thanks for all of the replies! I am so glad that others have experienced the same thing. Normally I am very hot natured, all the time. My daughter complains about freezing all the time but now she is complaining about being hot and I am sitting there with a sweater on!

Gingerjane - for me those pro-op headaches were the worst. I wanted to pound my head against a wall. In the past I would get headaches all the time but since my surgery (1 month today) I have not had 1! It is amazing.

Good luck next Monday!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
