7/21/09 Bandster and needing to get back on track

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone......I was banded 7/21/09 and was 60 when banded. To this date I have lost 72 pounds. Just wondering if anyone has been going thru what I have. Having this procedure was the best thing I've ever done for myself. Struggled all my life being overweight, losing and gaining more. After surgery, I faithfully followed all and I mean all the rules. The weight just dropped it seems like daily....For the first five months, I was on this website several times a day, it helped soooo much. I recorded every bite I took on My Daily Plate. I didn't consider it as a shore, it was exciting, getting healthy, seeing the scales go down, more energy, everything I've always wanted. During the Christmas holidays, I tasted a little of this and that, and it was like I was resorting back to my old ways which I didn't think I would ever allow!!! It's not that I've been going crazy, and I've not gained any weight. My weight loss has really slowed down. It has been my fault. I've had a total of 3 fills. My port moves like crazy, so I have to go in and have a flouroscopy(spell??) We tried to have my 4th fill last Wed. in the office, but it wouldn't be still. To SUM this up. I'm back on line, I have recorded what I've ate for the last 3 days, and I am promising myself to follow the rules.....I always says that surgery was not a miracle, but a WONDERFUL tool to help me finally find success. So lookout, you all are going to be hearing from me .....thanks for listening....I had to get it out and I must FOCUS...

I am right there with you! I feel the need to confess my sins. I was banded on 7/21/09, as well. I quickly lost about 60 lbs and then in November 2010, was too tight for too long, which resulted in my passing out at work from dehydration. I got a 1 cc unfill that day and proceeded to gain 10 lbs over the holidays. It's been a year and I'm still carrying those 10 lbs.

Here's how my mind works. I started out at a size 24 and am now a size 14. Over the past year, I have maintained the weight, which was a new concept for me. I have been making horrible food choices in the way of liquid calories, I have stopped getting in my Protein and I stopped exercising. Why? Because old habits die hard and I'm a size 14! 3 years ago, I would have killed to be a size 14. lol

Well, my 14's are now tight and last week I had a really bad PB spell from eating a hot dog. I felt like I had hit rock bottom - I remember standing over the toilet trying to get that damn hot dog out (sorry for the image) and was thinking "WHAT AM I DOING?"

This weekend, I went back to basics. I started out with 24 hours of liquids/mushies to give my stomach and band a break. I got out and exercised and I am eating my Protein, chewing a million times and taking small bites. The results are amazing! I have already dropped 3lbs, my size 14's that I bought 2 weeks ago are loose and I feel so much better about myself and my band.

Let's do this!! not_ripe.gif

Ok this is going to sound harsh but if a physician cant access your port, you need a new doc!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
