Does anyone have a MIDband?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone here has a MIDband that was fitted in Australia?

I have had mine for 3 years this month. It's been great, but I had it fitted in France (I'm from Europe). I've been getting my after care with a nice bariatric physician here, but the surgeon he's associated with doesn't use the MIDband.

I don't have any problems at the moment but if I do I would like to see a surgeon who uses and has experience with the MIDband.

I'm in SA but travel extensively throughout Australia for work so an interstate surgeon is a distinct possibility.

Thanks in advance for your replies!!

I don't live in Australia or have the midband but I have heard of it. A couple of weeks ago I got my band removed in Korea and while I was in recovering my doctor brought in another doctor who was visiting different countries in Asia to talk to them about bariatrics and the midband.

This doctor is from Australia and gave me his business card. Maybe he can help you. Here is his info from his business card

Dr Vincent Braniff M: 61 405 141 328 T: 61 2 9550 7271

Email: vbraniff@gmail.com

I am not sure he is in Australia right now as I think he is back in Korea for a few days until next week I am not sure. Maybe you can email him? Hope this helps

Hi all,

I am getting my midband put in on Tuesday...very excited. My surgeon is Dr Florica at the SAN in Sydney.

I chose the midband because there is no need for stitches and there is reduced complications from slippages, less chance of holes beaing created in the stomach from friction and the reduced complication rates.

In addition, post op liquid and mushie stage is reduced to one week each.

Midband seemed like a no-brainer to me over traditional lap-band. My surgeon has been doing them for 5 months now.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
