Has anyone gone to mexico for lap-band?

Recommended Posts

I was thinking about going to see Dr. Juan Lopez Corvala in Tijuana, Mexico. I was hoping I could talk to a real person that has had there surgery there. My Ins. wont pay cause my BMI is not high enough and I have no health related issues. My BMI is 37 and I feel terrible about myself. Hope somone can help.

I have not been banded but came across another thread were a person had gone to Mexico and said they are willing to answer questions. I think they even had the same doctor you are talking about. Here is the link.

I decided against Mexico, for me it was too much risk. I found a Dr in Dallas who did the surgery for $10,200 with fills included. When everything was factored in travel, fills, etc. it wasn't that much more expensive in the long run. I was also under the impression that the Dr's in Mexico used the older style bands. (This was 6 months ago, and things change quickly so you might want to check this out to see if it is still the case) But I wanted the newest technology available.

I was banded in Mexico and everything went well. I had lined up my aftercare well before my surgery and have had great results since.

I used Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana and I can't say enough about how wonderful he and his staff were to me! The flying after the surgery was a bit tough because I was sore but I can't complain about anything else.

Good Luck on your journey.

I just got banded today by Dr. Ortiz in Mexico. I could not be happier...his staff is wonderful and the place in very, very, very, clean.... I am so glad I decided to come here for it. The states wanted way to much money for the same procedure.

I am going to Mexico on 3/24 to have surgery with Dr. Kuri. I did a lot of research and I am comfortable with my decision. I have my after-care all set up. Good luck with your decision.!

I got banded in Tijuana by Dr. Oritz on 11/13/09. I had a good experiance.

I would recomend that you have a detailed list of questions & ask for an email or phone consultation before making your decision.

The price is right and there was no medical risk involved.

I was also thinking about Dr. Corvala, however, it seemed from this forum that Dr. Ortiz had a better track record then Dr. Corvala did according to patient satisfaction & word-of-mouth. I do not regret choosing Dr. Ortiz over Corvala but I guess it is just a matter of personal opinion.

You can email him directly at obesitycontrolcenter.com" rel="">drortiz@obesitycontrolcenter.com

Best of luck to you.

I was banded in Tijuana by Dr Corvala

I had my surgery in a state of the art Hospital for around $5k. I do have the 5cc band but that just meant I reached my sweet spot after 3 fills!

I went back for fills at $100 each

I have had no complications nor did I have any before the surgery.

I would recommend him to anyone & am available for any questions.

Don't believe the hype about Mexico & Mexican Doctors... You will be surprised how narrow minded & misinformed others are.

Good luck!

I hope you follow your gut!

Me and my wife both were banded by Dr. Ortiz. She had hers in 11/08 and i had mine 4/09.

Couldn't have found a better surgeon and facility to have it done. I would definately go to Mexico and do it again.

Headed to Mexico March 31st, Dr. Ortiz will be doing the procedure. I know 3 others personally that have had their procedure done there and are happier than ever about the experience.

I had lap band with Dr. Kuri in Dec 08'. He is fabulous and the facilities are beautiful and the staff is very friendly. It was like a mini vacation going there by the way that we were all treated. You are in very good hand.

I went to TJ Mexico for my lap band back in September. It was a great experiance. No problems at all. I will say..it was one heck of a weekend! I went with a group and hostess company-Laurie was our escort. She was great. Her site is

Lapband Mexico $6400 for Lap Band Surgery Change Your Life!

It was nice to have someone with us that had been there before and knew how to get around, where to go..etc. It was all very hassle free and smooth.

My husband went with me and stayed right in the clinic the first night with me, the second at a beautiful hotel. Totally different than surgery in the states. Way less expensive and very very competent care. People at the clinic were nice and efficient. The place was very clean. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

If you want to talk more, just message me.

Kimberly

Why do US doctors charge so much more?

If you ask me:

Because they can

Everyone must get a piece of the pie in the US so they charge more

In MX or overseas, you pay the Doctor & he pays any fees out of his pocket. (use of Hospital, product, assistance from others...)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
