I think I finally got a fill that has made a difference

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm usually more of an observer and reader on this site but wanted some opinions. I was banded in July, lost like 15 lbs in the first two weeks then slowed down immensely. My doc is pretty tight with following routine and not rushing it and while frustrating at times it makes sense. Right before xmas I was down 30 lbs since band, 40 since starting the program, and did not lose an ounce from xmas until two weeks ago when I saw the doc.

He said that he thought 9 ccs in when in actuality it was 7 ccs. I rarely got full and could eat an entire turkey sandwich including toasted bread. I now have 8.5 cc's in and really get full very quickly and feel like it is rally working. Before the fill I was powering down my typical morning whey drink and now since the fill , have to actually drink it slowly or else it will come right back. I don't think I'm overfilled cause I still can eat but really need to take small, small bites and fill up right away, like the said would happen. Sometimes if I'm having some steamed chicken, its like 3 or 4 small bites and I'm good. Does that seem right. I'm not hungry so I guess it is and I've lost 12 lbs int he last two weeks so I'm psyched with that.

On a very positive note, with the working out and everything else, I've lost 10% body fat since the surgery so I'm psyched.

I love this site and find it incredibly helpful.

Best wishes to all.

Congratulations! That is so wonderful. I don't think your too tight at all, sounds like good restriction to me. You must be so happy. 10% body fat loss, that rocks!

That is great news. Congrats. I went for my 3rd fill on Friday and I feel the same way now. For the first time I feel big time restriction. I have to be very careful and take small bites and chew really well though. I hope to see the weight really coming off now! Sounds like you are doing great.

Thanks Everyone. I was hoping it was the mysterious sweet spot. I'm certainly excited about it.

I really appreciate how positive and supportive everyone is here. the in person meetings tend to be a little bit of folks trying to top each other.

thanks again.

Sounds like you hit your spot-yea! I can not wait to hit mine. I have had 2 fills since being banded Dec. 18th 2009, and I still have no restriction. I have 5cc in a 10cc band, so maybe my third fill will be the one. It is so hard to be patient. I haven't had a weightloss in 3 weeks.

Jacksdad: You actually give me hope! I was banded 1/5/10 and have had 3 fills. I am still able to eat almost anything I want and rarely feel full. At first I thought maybe I was ignoring hunger ques- but I am always hungry! I have lost 30 lbs but most of that was the week before the banding and the first 3 weeks after. Since then I have lost nothing. So, all that to say that I have another appt. for a fill next Thursday and, even though I am glad they are taking it slow, I am really wanting to feel full after just a few bites without throwing up. If your experience is what I have to look forward to then I am excited! Thanks! Sue

I too was getting a little concerned because I could eat pretty much anything. eggs for some weird reason gave me problems. I was just filled to 5.5cc's last week and I think I have hit my sweet spot. I have to take very small bites and chew, chew, chew. I am able to eat, but only very small portions....

Congrats Jacksdad! I thought I was at my sweet spot for months even though I was losing slowly. Then I started feeling like I could eat way too much, so I went in for a fill. That was Thursday, 2/25, by Saturday I had lost 4 lbs and I could hardly eat anything. I know I am still swollen but I truly believe I am finally at my sweet spot. YAY!!

Good luck to you all!

thanks to everyone that replied. I though I knew what good restriction was before but now I really know. All those classes for 6 months where they were telling me how small of a portion I'd be able to eat is finally a reality.

I've got a long way to go but moving in the right direction. It's helped me refocus that this is really a long term process as well as a behavioral change.

Keep it up everyone.

Tom

Oh i am so glad to hear this because I am at 7.5ccs and I feel a little resistance but still not there like I hear others talk about. My Dr told me 9ccs should do me too and he plans to do that on my next fill in April. Yesterday i started feeling really full after less food then usual. Keep up the good work. Ive lost 25 pounds since I started in april but I didnt have surgery until Sept.

So excited for you, and jealous too! I've had two fills and am up to 6cc in a 14cc band, but I go back for fill #3 in two days! I'm excited about it, because I'm hoping it'll either bring me to the sweet spot or get me closer. What you're describing is exactly what the "sweet spot" sounds like based on what I've read from others (I also do more observing than posting on this site). I've noticed a couple of things feel stuck-ish this week as I inhaled my food instead of chewing, so I'm hoping that's a sign that I'm getting closer! I can still eat anything, and do...so I'm ready for some restriction to see those pounds come off! Congratulations to you :smile2:

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
