5 days and counting...

Recommended Posts

My name is Michele and I am from South Jersey. I am having surgery March 2nd...yes, 5 days from now...4 if you don't count the day I go in. I have no reservations about making the lifestyle change and learning how to eat the right way. My reservations are simply with the whole surgery needing anesthesia thing. Everyone keeps telling me I'm young and healthy (other than my weight) and that I ill be fine. I have only been in a hospital scenario with anesthesia once before, for endoscopy and colonoscopy. I don't think my wisdom teeth extraction anesthesia is quite the same.

I am only 22, almost 23, and I want the surgery more than anything, but have nerves sometimes about being able to live my life after the surgery. I want to wake up when it is done and I want to walk out of the hospital later that day of my surgery. I trust my doctor's, they are with a Center of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery and I am excited. Just have that fear lurking of going under anesthesia. Am I crazy to feel this way? Maybe it i due to my lack of experience per sey, with anesthesia??

If anyone would be willing to talk more in depth about the procedures that happen as you go into the OR, and how much you see before you go under?? that sort of thing...It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds like you are in good hands. You will not know anything that is going on and will be fine. I had the best nurses at Blodgett Hospital. They made me feel very comfortable. I don't remember anything until I woke up. I have a hard time with anesthesia, so I was a bit nauseous for a while. They have me some of the Unjury drink to sip on after a bit the same day. Keep your excitement, I remember being that excited with the anticipation also. Good Luck!! Yellowtulip

With the exception of my EGD, I had never had anesthesia before surgery. I was scared of general anesthesia, mostly worrying I wouldn't wake up. They put my IV in shortly after I got there. Then they gave me some relaxation drugs about 30 minutes before I was to go into the OR. Right before they rolled me out of my room they gave me some more drugs. They rolled me in and I had to move from my bed to the surgery table. Then they put a mask over my face and told me my hand was going to burn. That's all I remember until I woke up. There were quite a few people in the room when they were putting me to sleep but I have no idea what they were doing, I only remember my nurse and anesthesiologist. I woke up in recovery shaking and after they got that calmed down I was taken to my room (had to stay overnight per Dr. policy). It wasn't anywhere near as bad as what I had worked myself up to thinking it would be!

Good luck! I'm sure you'll all do wonderfully!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
