first fill and I am scared

Recommended Posts

No worries. A sharp thin prick for the Lidocaine to numb you, after that it's just interesting. The needle is long but if you can feel your port, it won't need to go all the way in. They are special non-coring needles made by Inamed. I can feel when the doc draws out...it's like a sucking around my stomach...a very vague sensation but there.

You will do fine! It's kind of a non-event. You might be a little dissappointed.

Happy restriction! Let us know how it goes.

I had my first fill yest. I was worried too. It was absolutely nothing. My doctor did not use lidocaine. I would think the lidocaine would be more painful than the actual fill. I felt very full for the next twelve hours or so. You can really feel the restriction. Which is what the band is all about. The hard part was comitting to the band and having the surgery. Now just let the band help you.

PS I had to be on Clear Liquids for 12 hrs after the fill and then full liquids for 24 hours and soft food another 24 hours and then my normal diet resumes.

I also have my first fill on Nov. 15th. I am sorta nervous also, but this message board has really helped with all WLS related issues. Let us know how it goes! I suspect that it will be like most have already stated "uneventful."

Had first fill on 11/01 - Now then fun begins! I found I had little or no restriction after I resumed normal food following the surgery. Since the fill, it is amazing! You feel when you have had enough......to the point that you won't swallow the last bite of food in your mouth. I think it's great to finally have the benefit after going through all this. The actual fill is nothing, literally a few seconds. Like a quick needle. Good luck!!

OMG, the needle is SOOOOOOOO HUGE! Just remember to breathe through the pain like it is giving birth. Quick breaths so the pain isn't so bad.

I AM KIDDING!!!!!!!!! Kinda feels like a sweat bee sting. Not bad at all, and I am a HUGE baby.... it won't be so bad at all, I swear!

I STRONGLY recommend the EMLA patch that La Madam turned me on to if you are a chicken like I am. If you use it you will not feel the Lidocaine shot, or the needle for the fill (in fact you may not even need the lidocaine shot)

These can be purchased here:

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
