First Fill Restriction

Recommended Posts

Hey, I apologise if this question has come up before.

I had my first fill 2 weeks ago and am going for my second in a few days, but I found after the first fill, I had no more restriction that when I had no fill.

I still can eat much more than I thought I would be able to (7 weeks post op) Is this normal? My doc did say he would be filling me up slowly, but what was everyone else like at this stage? How many fills did you all need to get you the best restriction… i cant wait to have real restriction so i can loose some more weight..... Thanks for you help

Hi again, Very rara :) Yes, this is pretty normal. Most people find that it takes around 3-4 fills before they really start to feel the full effects of the band. The second fill will help a little but probably not very noticeable still. Mind you, if your problem before banding was Portion Control (like most of us), what it should manage to do for you is to stop you eating HUGE meals (like I used to do). You'll still be able to eat a "normal" sized dinner and probably won't have problems with any food types yet. Don't try to find the limits of how much you can still eat - if you take it slowly and chew well, you can probably manage to still push it way beyond a sensible meal size. Just aim for making healthy eating choices and let the band stop you from going overboard completely. The portion sizes will come down with each fill, and then the real power of the band will kick in. Meantime, you can still lose weight with simple healthy eating.

Hey Fanny Adams! Thank you for your reply. I look a look at your profile and you look AMAZING!! Well done, you’re an inspiration and you give me motivation…. So thank you.

I had my second fill the other day (he said he gave me 2) and I feel a little more restricted, still not good restriction though as you said I wouldn’t, V excited to have full restricted. I definitely eat at least half of what I used to. I sit at the table with my family with half of what they eat and take double the time : )

I think I had my first experience with getting food stuck the other day, I was at work and admittedly eating too fast (still trying to slow my chewing down) when I got this VERY uncomfortable pain in my gut, and it lasted about 15 minutes, but I had to leave my desk and go out the back for a little bit!!

I have lost 7kg, which Is exciting and starting to feel better already :wink2:

Hope your enjoying your long weekend

Well this is all something I have yet to start so its good to read all your posts so I can know what to expect...I think we are all so keen to get this working and are somewhat impatient ....I guess it took me at least 17years to get this size so its going to take some time and patience to start to get it off....

Don`t be disheartened I just keep thinking of Christmas 2010 and I know I will be smaller than I was this past Christmas....

Best of Luck Girls....

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
