Glued Incisions-Removing Glue

Recommended Posts

How did you get the glue off? Are we supposed to try and remove it? I had my post-op appt yesterday and the doc said I can now wash with soap and Water but that doesn't remove it. Will it enventually come off or should I use something? Or do I let it be, I don't want glue on my tummy for weeks or months!

I don't know how to get it off quickly. I just kept showering normally and it eventually all went away.

When I removed the strips from surgery, there was sticky stuff from the tape and I just rubbed it off or washed it off in the shower...I did not remove any glue that was sealing up my incisions.

It will start drying and curling up at the edges in a very few days and you will be able to peal it off. Until that happens it is recommended that it be left in place.

The edges of mine kept curling up and I just took my tiny sewing scissors and snipped off the curling ends, per my doc's instructions. I left the rest alone and let it come off naturally. Finally at 8 weeks, he said that I could use by shower brush to 'lightly' wash the rest of the glue off if it wasn't off by then.

I just let mine "wear" off in the shower. I had no restrictions about bathing or showering after surgery.

If you're referring to the suger-glue like stuff they use instead of tape sometimes, it will wear off a couple weeks after surgery. I think within 2 weeks I was glue-free. I just washed with soap and Water and my "poof" in the shower.

The scabby super glue on the actual incision will either fade or eventually peel off. My smaller ones never peeled, they just sorta faded. My 2 largest/worst peeled up like a scab.

The clear top coating will just wear off with regular washing.

Thanks everybody I will just let them be until they start to come off on it's own.

DON"T PEEL THEM!!! My surgeon was VERY strict on that...he said they will come off when i was healed...well i will say that one of my incisions the glue was rising up so after about 2 weeks i just 'scratched' it off...big mistake. Most of it was not ready and that incision expanded...mind you, it did not open, but instead of having a little line for an incision like my other ones are, it's the size of my thumb  That's what happens when you take it off before it's ready....

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
