...getting to know all about you!

So, I was wondering where everyone was at in their Lapband journey?? then I was thinking it'd be great to get to know more about my peers who are on the same journey that I am! Sooooo...

I go for my consultation with the surgeon next thursday. I already attended the information session, and will be attending my first support group next wednesday. Very excited, already got my referral from my PCP to go see the surgeon. No medically supervised diet necessary (woot!).

A little about me...I'm Lizz from Philly. I am a mom to an awesome little boy, and me and his father have been together for 6 years now. I love tattoos, piercing, heavy metal, and hard rock! I work in criminal law and i love my job! i've always been a big girl but was active and athletic. My weight is at its highest since I was injured back in December and I feel now is the time to try to do something for my health and myself.

ok enuff said! let's here from some of you!

My goal NSV....fitting into my old size 12 levi silver tabs!

Helllo all!!

As of right now I am in the process of getting all my tests done. I've already done my consult with my surgeon and nutritionist, I'm waiting for an issue with my pysch eval to be solved and then they'll submit to insurance. My surgeon makes everyone do a million tests before the surgery. I have to get clearance from my lung doctor, clearance from the heart doctor, sleep study (which is tonight woohoo), breathing test (done), chest xray (done), blood work needs to be done, PCP clearance (done), I have to go to one support group, gastrologist, ab sono (done), vein sono and I think that's it (I'm sure I'm missing something). I'm hoping to have everything done and surgery scheduled for late April or early May.

Little more about me, I am 26 my name is Liz and I live in Staten Island, NY. I'm single and not loving it :-( I'm really doing this to save my life, be healthy and just feel better about myself. I do have some goals but rather not share them yet, not until I have a surgery date and I know this is for real.

Can't wait to hear from everyone else!!!!

Hello. I'm married without children... yet. My goal is to get healthy for pregnancy and of course life lol. I've been to the information seminar and my consultation with the surgeon. I'm making all my appointments and I'm hoping that if all goes well my procedure will be in April. I'm still skeptical if this is right for me but I figure I'll talk to all the professionals and make my decision by april. In the meantime I do workout quite often and I really try to watch what I eat.

Hey everyone!

My name is Jessika, I'm 26 and from Minnesota. I've been with my husband for 7 1/2 years and married for 3 1/2. We don't have any kids yet. I got banded January 27th. I move to solid foods tomorrow! Woo-hoo!

I have degenerative disk disease and trying to get around when my back was out when I weighed 312 was practically impossible. The constant low back and neck pain made life suck and I decided it was time to do something about it. I started the journey in Jan. 2008 but due to my hubby's job going downhill I had to stop 4 months into the medically supervised diet. I'd lost 40 pounds and figured I could do more on my own. Ha! Gained it back just like every other time. So after 2 more bouts of not being able to walk (and a new job for my husband) I started my insurance process again and got banded! Best decision of my life. I've lost 95 lbs. from my top weight (about 70 since starting my 6 months) and although my back hasn't gotten much better, I'm hopeful that by the time I reach goal it will be better.

I'm enjoying banded life. I'm one of the lucky ones who isn't hungry. I know that can change at any time, but I'm hoping not! The head hunger is kind of amazing to me though. It's like every food I didn't like before sounds SO great now that I can't have it! It's ridiculous sometimes.

Nice to meet you all and I hope everyone's journeys go smoothly!!

Hi Everyone,

I am Heddy 22 from Kansas. I have been on an over two year journey thus far. I have lost about 90 lbs now and it has been rather hard. I am in college and single and my life is s busy with school and work. Even being a slow loser, I am so happy I was banded. I have never felt this confident and this in control of my body.

I am making a goal to be under 200lbs by june which means I need to lose 20 pounds. I really know with hard work I can make it. Like many people my age, my life is unstructered so finding the right time to eat the right foods is hard but I am getting there. Its nice to meet you all and I cannot wait to chat more!

Heddy

Hi Everyone,

I'm Ellen, 25, living in Maryland near DC. I have been thinking about surgery for the past 8 years since my doctor told me it would be a good option for me since I have PCOS and have tried everything to lose weight with very little luck. My parents didn't like that idea but now that I'm an adult (lol) and have my own health insurance, I decided it's time.

I have been happily partnered for nearly 4 years, we own a home, have great jobs, a dog, and a horse, so I don't really have any huge reason to do this (it certainly can't make me happier than I already am in life) - but I do hate to feel like I am held back from things I enjoy doing and I've started to feel like I'm only going to get more and more limited as I get older. My weight has been relatively steady for the past 5 years, in the 260s but I ended up at 274 when I started this process.

I'm very fortunate to have insurance covering me 100% and my process will have taken about 3 months from the time I made the first phone call to my surgeon's office through banding (which is 3 weeks away.)

I'm happy to meet people who are on this journey and look forward to posting some after pictures soon :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
