puncture during fill?

Recommended Posts

Is it possible that I could have leaked out all my Fluid? Wed. I had a fill (4th) and the phys. asst. had to poke me a few times to find the port and now I am not feeling any restriction...Thoughts?

It sure sounds like a leak to me. You should call the surgeon's office and have them check it out.

Did you have restriction before the fill? If not, then it might just be that it's going to take you a bit longer to get there.

You may have felt restriction immediately post-fill due to swelling rather than reaching the optimal level of Fluid in the band.

How many fills have you had so far? I'm on my 5th with no restriction. I think those ports are pretty tough. It would take a lot to puncture one. I'm on my 2nd band and my first port flipped and they still never punctured anything. But always check with your doctor about any concern you have.

Betsy is most likely right. You were swollen from the fill and now that it's gone you have no restriction. Same thing happened to me for my first fill...that's all I've had. I wouldn't worry about it but if it bothers you call your doctor. Best wishes!!!

Thanks everyone! I probably should have mentioned also that I have only been eating mushies so I haven't actually 'tested' my fill properly...having some chicken tonite so I'll prob. know then. Hoping I'm just jumping the gun abit - again, thanks for your help!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
