lost 40 pounds using a Pedometer

Recommended Posts

I've been having weight issues since I was a teenager, and have tried a lot of different diets, pills, and exercise programs.

Recently I lost over 40 pounds and wanted to share how I did it with everyone.

From my research I believe that my weight issue was from a lack of activity vs over eating.

I'm rather motionless when working at the office and going to the gym just wasn't for me.

I read somewhere that based on a 2000 calorie diet we should be taking about 10,000 steps a day.

For the first week I measured my steps and only averaged about 3000 - 5000 steps a day less than half the recommended.

So my new plan was to reach 10,000 steps a day, some days I really can't manage it, if I’m required to work at the office so I try to have a combined 70,000 steps a week.

I try to get in 2,000 steps before lunchtime

If I'm under I will pick a further place to buy food.< /p>

And Over 5,000 by time I leave work.

If I am under It gives me a reason to clean up the house or pick up groceries.

I tend to shop more often now instead of buying large quantities of all at once.

In all I haven't given up much other than pacing around the house when I’m watching TV instead of sitting on the couch

I've noticed that I've been volunteering to do the little things more, such as grabbing the napkins for everyone or delivering messages to my co-workers desk; instead of waiting for them to walk by, just to get a couple of extra steps in throughout the day

The first month I lost 15 pounds

I was really motivated so i tried adding 12,000 steps instead 10,000

It was definitely harder to keep up so went back to 10,000 after two weeks

I'm in my 5th month now, and in total I have lost 40 pounds, however it seems I'm not losing it as fast as the first two months. However, I have sub-consciously changed a lot of my old habits, so it’s basically effortless now.

So basically the plan is to walk 10,000 steps a day or 70,000 a week if you rather do more on the weekends.

A pedometer costs about $15 - $20,

I ordered my first one from Amazon because the local sports store didn't have any.

Recently I received a Free one from SkinnyWishes in the mail.

I have an Omron pedometer but haven't used it in a while. I just bought some batteries for it, so I'll be using it again very soon.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
