Happy, but frustrated

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone else is going through the same thing as me...

I had surgery on 11/5/09, and I've lost 25lbs, which I'm super happy about. BUT, I've only lost one pant size. It's great to feel my old jeans big, but then I put on a size smaller and they fit just right, not loose, but good. I would have thought 25lbs would have been at least 2 sizes. I started at 191lbs, so I know I don't have a lot more to loose, but if 25lbs is one size, then is the next 25lbs only going to be one more size? Just feeling a little frustrated and disscouraged right now. I really want to go to the mall and slide right into a pair of cute skinny jeans.

What was your ratio of weight loss to size loss?

Hang in there! My weight loss and size changes have always varied. A few years ago I was losing some weight with good 'ol diet and exercise... I lost 22 lbs and barely lost one size, then I joined the gym and I did not drop another pound, but I lost several more inches, this is when the sizes really started to change. I was buying new jeans about once a month!

I hear ya!! You just never know! I was once told that 8-10 pounds was one dress size. I call BS on that one! I've lost 16 pounds and still find just one size smaller is still a bit too snug. Not quite sure there's a specific formula to this. Wish there was, though!!

I think it depends on your body shape and where you carry your weight. I always lose top down so my butt and legs are slower to go down than my top half!

Don't worry, - you will get there! Just be patient!

I think that when you are larger it is a larger difference between sizes. Like an 18 to a 16 may take 25 lbs but a 6 to a 4 would take maybe 10

Himow is right. I's about the percentage of weight lost. exercise and where you lose are other key factors. Measure your arms legs hips chest neck etc... you're are losing somewhere. Maybe you rings are getting bigger. Hang in there! Barb

Hi Barb,

Funny you should mention rings. For some reason, I was surprised that my fingers lost weight! I haven't been able to wear my rings for a while now. I told my hubby, that after I get to my goal weight, the one thing I want to reward myself is to have my rings resized!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
