Self Payers, Pre- Op test$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Recommended Posts

I will be self paying my lap band surgery. I have an appt. with my surgeon on 1/13/10, the surgery coordinator told me that at my first appt. the doctor would tell my what pre-op testing he feels I need. I know that I will need a psy. eval, the surgeon stated at the seminar that everyone must have one. My question is what is the average cost of of the standard pre-op testing for the lap band, and were all these test done at the hospital or were they each done seperatly. I know the psy. eval is done seperatly. I would appreciate any info. Thanks in advance.

My pre-op testing fees where included in the hospital fee. I had to pay the hospital, the doctor and the anesthesiologist. After paying all that I got a bill for $40.00 for the radiologist who read my chest xray. Your doctors office should be able to give you this info since it various.

Hi, My price included everything 100% from pre op tests to post op everything, including fills. One flat fee $15,500 paid in advance .... no matter what I need they will do for me. I suppose it evens out, some patients have to do a bunch of stuff others not much.

Hi. I didn't have to have a psych evaluation. I only have to have an abdominal ultrasound and some blood work.

My total cost of pre-op testing was $965 USD (3550 AED) and that included the doctor's appointment.

Banded on 9 January 2010

I was a self pay for my surgery. I went tomy primary care physcian and requested surgery clearance. I had a list of things that were needed that my surgeon had given me. My primary doctor did all tests required and I paid only my copay to him. He then mailed a clearance letter to the surgeon.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
