Getting Two Teeth Pulled

Recommended Posts

tomorrow and I'm more nervous than I was the night before being banded. I hate going to the dentist, I'd rather have a baby. My question is, should I have my band doctor prescribe some antibiotic after I get this done? Do I need to tell him, my band doctor, that I had this done?

Ok, now I need everyone to tell me it's gonna be ok and it's not gonna hurt and I'm not going to cancel my appt.

I've got some valium I could take, but I don't want that to interfere with the nitrous she gives.

Wish me luck:eek

OK Pat,

I am the biggest Wuss when it comes to the dentist. Valium will not interfere with the nitrous - just be sure to mention that you have taken it so they don't overdo.

Teeth pulling isn't so bad. You won't even feel it when they are doing it - although you will hear some strange noises and your jaw will feel a bit like a bull dozer passed through your mouth afterwards. That goes away pretty quickly, and if you are VERY lucky, your doc will give you a script for some tylenol with codeine.

I don't think antibiotics are required. Tell your dentist about your band. Tell your band doc about everything. You never know when something will be important.

((hugs)). I feel your fear. You will survive.

EWL I hate the dentist too~ I had a tooth pulled just after being banded, and I called my surgeons office who did my band surgery and he said there is nothing special that needs to be done...no antibodics or stuff like that. Then I just informed the dentist of my band, and that when it came time for him to prescribe pain killers I reminded him it had to be in liquid form...I ended up with more liquid vicodin~ I have BAD BAD BAD panic attacks at the dentist. And the one I went to was sooo good to me! I didn't have nitrous or anything prior to~ Which was a mirical in itself! It was the day before I was leaving for my vacation to Florida too! I was given all the novicaine that I needed. I was SOOO numb!!! I was so scared, that tears were rolling out of my little eyes. But cha know what...it didn't hurt. My dentist made sure that there was nothing that i would feel other than pressure. It cost me 250.00 to get the tooth taken out, but it was worth it!! It could have been very very very ugly real quick in that chair for me...but he really took care of me!! THANK YOU DR DRUCE......

Pat I hate going too! I would just make him aware of your band just in case of emergency, and for medications. Tell him you are uneasy, maybe he will make it a little better for you. :):):)

Good luck!

Thanks ladies, it's gotta be done or I'll end up with a tooth ache from hell, so here I go.

I'm probably gonna take a half a valium before I leave. I'll let the dentist know about the valium and the band.

Have a great day.

good luck! I'm a major dentist wuss myself... Nothing quite like being told "you are numb enough and stop being such a baby..."

I hate going to the dentist, I'd rather have a baby.

Bwahahahahaha!

I am totally ok with the dentist but I am terrified of any other kind of doctor. In a couple of weeks, I have to go for my very first pap smear and I am just sick over it. It's going to hurt, the doctor will not only see how fat I am, but also all the chafing on my inner thighs, and then there's the fact that she'll be looking at parts of me no one has ever seen - including me!

I hope your dentist visit - and my dr. visit - will be a lot worse in imagination than in real life.

Hmmmmmmm.......nitrous......

I love going to the dentist. Always have, and nitrous is why. My mom was terribly traumitized by the dentist, and she didn't want us kids to have the same experience, so she insisted we get nitrous - even for cleanings!

I learned, by the age of 8 or so, that when the assistant came in and asked if your feet were tingling yet - if you said yes, they came in and started to work on you, ruining your good time - but if you said no, then you got another 5 or ten minutes of bliss.

I realize now what a little druggie I was! Good thing I never developed a taste for pot or anything more hard core! I'm not sure I would've been able to stop.

I gotter done! I'm home with an ice pack pressed against my jaw. I just want to get this gauze out of my mouth, yuk. She had to cut the wisdom tooth out so now I have to deal with sutures for a week. I took a pain pill, broke it in half, but I may have to take another one in a bit. It's the same kind my DH got last week, but his DR told him to take two at a time. I told her if I hold up my thumb I need more nitr, so I kept holding up both thumbs. That noise, it sounded like she was pulling them from my toes, but it's done.

Thanks for the hugs and caring, it helped, (big swollen smile).

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
