If anyone could help me I would be so grateful. I was banded August 2008 and all was well and I was losing great...until about 4 months ago. I kept telling my Dr that I wasn't able to keep food down, but he said it was my sinus drainage and reflux causing the problem and I didn't need Fluid out. He gave me medication for both problems. One night, I couldn't even drink Water so I went to my dr's partner and they let all the fluid out, but said the guided swallow showed that I had a blockage, maybe stuck food. They said it would pass and I should be able to eat in no time. So 2 weeks went by, still not able to keep food down. Had another guided swallow, and the "blockage" was gone and they think there was never food there, it was inflammation from the irritation from vomiting. Got a steroid shot. I have had an EGD, at least 5 guided swallows and they still don't know what the problem is. Now they are ruling out my gallbladder being bad, but as soon as I swallow the food it comes right back up (not typical for GB). They say my band looks good...but I haven't had ANY fluid in my band for a month now and I still throw up after each meal. I am so frustrated and I just don't know what is wrong and what to do next. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks for reading!

Hi there, I have not had any problems with my band but I just wanted to wish you the best of luck... that is INSANE what you are going through. I can't believe they can't figure out why you are unable to keep food down, that's so strange especially considering you dont have any Fluid in your band. Please keep us posted as to what you find out.. I imagine you are sicker than hell.

I have sinus allergies and from this my stomach tends to swell around the band. If I don't drink enough Water one day I will notice being really tight and struggle to eat the next day. If I vomit I become swollen and can't eat. With all this, it can be a vicious cycle.

You must be keeping enough food and liquid down to survive or you would be hospitalized and fed through IV fluids. Take it slow, eat small amounts and take very small bites. Stick with softer, easier to chew Proteins instead of the recommended solid Proteins and see if this helps.

Have they checked to see if maybe it doesn't have anything to do with the band? Maybe some kind of bacteria in your stomach?

My daughter doesn't have a band, but -- she was very ill a few months ago -- couldn't keep anything down. Did all sorts of tests including an endoscopy and it was found that she had h. pylori bacteria in her stomach. They did a triple treatment and she's right as rain.

Hope you feel better soon - I can't imagine what you must be going through :rolleyes2:

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
