Gained almost all my weight back... please help...

Recommended Posts

Been MIA for a while, I"ll try not to make this too long. Had my surgery April 2008, so coming up on two years this april. I started out at 278, got down to 248, and I am currently at 264, I've had 3 fills, def. noticed a difference after the third fill which was beginning of November, I'm going back Jan. 14, because I feel restriction, but it's more like onlt if I eat too fast or don't chew enough, I don't know if I'm feeling "full" if that make sense? For those of you that have lost a good amount of weight, and feel like you have good restriction, could you eat a 6" turkey sub from subway? Because I can, so do I have good restriction? This is where I am so confused bc my doc says thats ok and thats an ok food choice. He's says he's nt gng to fill me to where I can only eat a few bites aalso have to make better food choices. I GET THAT! But I might of as well of joined weight watchers then! I did the band so that I could still eat what I wanted in moderation, even in bite size portions, am I totally off base here? Because if I am, someone put me in my place. I know I have to make good food choices, but i wanna be able to indulge a little bit, thats why i didn't do bypass. I feel like someone who has had great success with the band and who has good restriction, would tell me no way in hell could they eat a 6" subway sub. I'm getting so frustrated I've about given up. I have a very physically demanding job 40 hours a week and that doesn't even make a difference, i don't get it. Please someone help me I'm desperate here. Thanks guys....

Well, I find that I have good restriction, but I am definitely not too tight. I can eat most foods that I want, just a lot less of it. I feel that if you can eat the entire 6" sub, bread and all, you probably need a LITTLE more restriction. If you insist on a fill, it should be very small, maybe .2ccs. Talk to your surgeon and voice your concerns, but I also feel like he does, I didn't have this surgery to have it rule my life and not allow me to eat.

Examples of my eating if I go out:

Chilis:

pre-band: 1/2 order of skillet queso and chips; 1/2 order of a chicken quesadilla and probably a dessert.

Now: 1/4 order of skillet queso and cup of chili, no dessert

Pizza:

pre-band: 3 slices of a large regular crust pizza

Now: 1, sometimes 2 slices of a thin crust SMALL pizza

Cracker Barrel: LOVE THE BISCUITS

pre-band: 2 or 3 biscuits prior to my entree; then 1 entree

Now: 1 biscuit, then 1 fish fillet and 1/4 c mashed potatoes

Thanks for your reply, sometimes Im so depressed about all this I refuse to eat. And I know this is also a horrible thing to do. A certain medication I'm taking kinda makes me NOT hungry. I just don't wanna eat, and still I see no weight loss. So docs even prescribe this med for weight loss and well its not helping me! LOL!

We were at TGI Fridays tonight and this is what I was able to eat, 4 french fries of my daughters, 2 boneless chicken wings, and a half of a chicken breast, and i was done. I'm wasn't stuffed, but I knew when it was time to stop, however, this will not keep me full for very long, so is this how I know I might need a SLIGHT fill?

That sounds ok for the amount of food. How much time do you think is not long? If it is 4 hours, that is about right. Start journaling your food amounts and see how many calories you are consuming each day. If you aren't hungry and don't eat very often, it is possible that you aren't eating enough each day.

If you don't have a food journaling tool, the www.mydailyplate.com site is free and I think it is very good. I journal my exercise and food and it tells me what my net calories are for the day and I can see a whole week or month of my progress. Look for the big picture. Don't beat yourself up over 1 day off track, get back on the next.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
