"Bottomless pit" days...

Recommended Posts

I have been doing well since first fill. Surgery on 11/12 and first fill 12/23. I have been pleasantly surprised with the restriction I am getting. Well...I experienced my first bottomless pit day yesterday! I woke up starving! I ate healthy allday. My stomach was growling all day in between my "every 2 hour meals."

I woke up today and I am back to normal! Is this normal? Is this pre-period hormonal stuff? Can I expect this on a regular basis? I thought about fastfood and pizza soooo many times yesterday, but didn't eat them.

I had to eat every 2 hours in order to not be starving and im OK with that if it wouldn't have been such a surprise!

Is it TOM, or a few days before? That usually gets my appetite started, especially before. Are you getting in enough Protein? It really does keep me satisfied longer.

Eat more Protein. It also sounds like "Head Hunger" more than actual hunger. Hang in there.

I get between 75-85 Protein daily. I thought head hunger was "all in my head?" I was physically hungry....growling, pain in my shoulder etc. I am about 10 days pre TOM. Maybe this was it. Just feels strange it would be 1 day and not again today.

It is completely normal to have a day when you are much hungrier than normal. Have kids? Then you've seen them have days where you just have to keep feeding them only to have the next day arrive and they are back to normal. Same thing for us adults. Just because we've had weight problems doesn't mean some of the things we experience related to food are simply normal. Do the best you can with them when they happen. I agree with the "eat more protein" suggestion since Protein takes longer to digest so would keep your stomach busy longer....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
