The Lortab really helped knock me out so I could sleep well. Even when my pain was pretty much gone, I kept taking it just at night to help me get to sleep and stay asleep. Now its all gone, but my doc has given me the OK to go back to taking all meds I used to take before including Benadryl (which I use to help me fall asleep sometimes). It does the trick for me and it is OTC.

I had surgery on Dec 29th and Im finding sleeping a little difficult too. The day of surgery I couldnt stay awake in the hospital but since I havebeen home I havent slept more than 2 hours at a time. The 1st night I sat up in bed and it was AWFUL! I am now living on the couch which is a little better but sitting up and sleeping is getting old! I figure Ill just fight it out until I get so tired I just completly pass out

Yeah totally typical.

I could not sleep in a bed comfortably for almost 3 weeks.

I had to sleep in my Recliner, which I now think is permanetly goofy from. LOL

I now can sleep fine with no issues, and even sleep on my stomach, thank goodness!

So yeah give it time, and you will heal from it, but it does take time, and can be very frustrating.

I have had no problems sleeping due to the drugs. I have even been able to take naps. The first night home I slept on my back with pillows under my knees and all around me. I have never slept on my back. I fell asleep for 5 hours. I was shocked. Now I am sleeping on my side. The Loratab did help the first couple of nights sleeping. I am no longer taking it since I have to drive.

Some of the folks who posted here mentioned the pressure from gas after the surgery. The only thing that helped me with that was moving around. The third day after the surgery, my family had me well-medicated and took me to see the aquarium (hey, I don't live in that state, so I didn't worry about acting silly). They checked it out with my surgeon before going, and he thought it was a fantastic idea. I am glad I went because I was able to get things moving along, and I got rid of the gas. After that, I went right to sleep. You know, if he'd not recommended taking the pain medicine and getting moving, I don't know that I would have tried it. When you are achy, it seems a little counter-intuitive. Hope this helps some.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
