Sleep Study Experience

Recommended Posts

Wires strapped to your body, goo all in your hair, things shoved up your nose, and extreme paranoia...they are watching... Ready for Halloween? Or... a sleep study? :)

This was the weirdest experience of my life, a blasted sleep study in Richardson, TX. It took 30 minutes to hook up all the wires, glue things to my skull, and put things up my nose. Then it took about an hour for me to fall asleep. You must sleep on your back or they will wake you up and put you on your back. That was the hardest thing.

***News Flash*** I snore! The tech would not tell me anything else, except that she did not notice me stop breathing much. (how much is much?) She said that the doctor will interpret the things and get back with me. I asked her what they do with the tapes of people sleeping, and she said she sells them on Ebay. (joke...I hope)

So, don't pick your nose, scratch your hinney, or heaven forbid pass gas in your sleep. That will just make the tape more valuable on Ebay!

The goop in my hair took three shampoos to get out. Actually used Palmolive, then regular Shampoo. Palmolive cuts the grease you know.

Wanted to share the experience so that everyone could lbe prepared if they have one coming up. It really was no big deal. Just a little weird knowing people are watching you sleep...

Yep, been there done that 4 times already in my life...*sigh* I stopped breathing so much they put me on oxygen halfway through the night, because I had brought my oxygen levels down so far. They are never fun! Just one more step in the goal of WLS. :-)

I know how you feel, I hate that goop they put in your hair, and after they took the wires off of my legs the first time, the tape had stuck so badly, I had a bruise there for over a week. Ouch!!!

I was called to go back a second time as it seems I didn't stop breathing during the first test until it was almost time to wake me up. So with the second one they put me on the CPAP machine and throughout the night, they kept changing the masks to see which one worked the best. Then the stupid wires they originally put on quit working, so they had to start all over. I for the life of me don't know why they call it a sleep study if they don't let you sleep, lol.

Bottom line, I do have minor sleep apnea, so now I get to wear this lovely gel mask on my face that scares my poor dog half to death. I have to hide my head under the covers or she cries and runs to the foot of the bed shaking.

But I do have to say, it certainly has helped me sleep through the night and not wake up like I just went to bed. I have more energy and don't need to take a nap in the middle of the day anymore, so all in all I guess it was worth it.

Cindy

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
