4 days out and still can't eat all I'm supposed to
Tess2352 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on 10/15 (4 days ago). I am on full liquid diet, but have trouble getting in the 60 gms of protein that I am supposed to eat. If I eat too much or too fast it hurts....will I ever be able to eat everything that I'm supposed to eat? Also, this hurts more than I thought it would. I had a hysterectomy in 2003, and I thought this would hurt less because of laproscopic procedure. But I seem to be taking a long time to heal. My doctor did tell my husband that I had adhesions that he fixed - so that may be why I'm recovering slower. But I am a little depressed today. Is this a normal feeling?:cursing: -

Gas pain in shoulder - 10 days post op
bugginbri replied to emjay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No matter what I tried I couldn't get rid of the pain in my shoulder. For me it was just time. I finally noticed that I didn't have the shoulder pain about 9-10 weeks after surgery. For me that was the worst part of the whole procedure however I would do it again in a heartbeat. No regrets! -

How did you guys do on your pre op diet?
DisplacedYankee replied to Road2health's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am currently half way through my liquid diet and I am going bonkers. I am having about 4 shakes a day or 2 with one Isopure to hit my protein goal. I am not hungry but I have the super strong urge to munch. I had my first jello today so that helped for like 10 minutes. It also makes me wish I still had my E-Cig but that had to go as well. Maybe I should take up knitting or cross stitch to keep my hands busy!! -
How many grams of sugar is too much sugar?
Diana_in_Philly replied to Tejee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My personal rule, 2.5 years out, is no more than 10 g of sugar, unless its at breakfast, 15g. (All bets are off if the sugar is from fruit - I'm talking about processed sugar.) -
Exercise to frim skin before and after Lapband

Jo Ann, You have my complete and total admiration! 3 10 pound children? Wow, that's quite an accomplishment. I only have two boys, both born at 7lb 6oz. But they were back to back. Feb 12th and May 12th. Aside from them, have you heard of any specific lotions that work better than others maybe? Like Aveno vs Jergens? Any info at this stage is great. If there's nothing special, then heck, I'm gonna use the tons of pretty lotions that I have around here. Like my Victoria Secrets lotion. Mm...sexy. -

5'5" Women....what is your goal weight or size?
jhansen71 replied to VSGRachel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are many people on VST and MFP (My Fitness Pal) that lose well over 100 lbs. I would say you will lose what you put into it. Your first 6 months will be your biggest weight loss. You can increase your loss during this time by following all of the rules, including watching what you eat and working out. After the first 6 months it slows for most people. When I say slows its still a higher loss than someone without VST could probably attain, but its just not crazy weight loss like 5-10 lbs in one week that can happen occasionally. You want to take full advantage the first full year and follow your nutritionists guidelines as best you can and you will learn great habits into the 2nd year when you just have to work a little harder to lose. I'm 10 months out and my weight loss has slowed considerably since month 7, but I'm also very close to goal so its to be expected. How I wouldn't love one more big week though... On a final note...If you go in with the expectation that this isn't a magic pill and you put in a lot of effort to take full advantage of the benefits this surgery can offer, you can achieve anything. Good luck, you can do it! I hope this was helpful. Sent from my iPhone using VST -
I'm having the sleeve in 4 days and I'm scared this is not something I should do
TracyBar replied to LittleLizzieLilliput's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
KristenLe - you have a surgery date now??I do!!! Yippee! 11 days - 10/18! Good news! Happy for you - I know you have been anxious to get the date. You seem to be in a good place mentally with the surgery - wish I was too. I had my first appt. with the intake nurse and it was all very surreal to me. "How am I here? How could this have happened to me?" that sort of stuff going on in my head. With all the research and homework I've done she was impressed - but hearing how good of a candidate for the surgery I am didn't really help me feel better about it. I'm happy I went this road and didn't opt for self-pay which means nobody looks after you. I will need this time between now and surgery to get my head right - and decide if it's good for me or not. -
I start my liquid diet tomorrow, mine is for 10 days. I found two drinks that I love, Oh Yeah! It has 32 g of protein and muscle milk pro series has 40g. My dr also said I can eat plain chicken breasts and turkey. It no fruits or veggies. I think I will start the liquid only and only eat the food if absolutely necessary

I recently added a second comforter to my side of the bed! I get so cold at night, I wake up shaking. I mentioned this to a friend of mine, who happens to be a pro MMA fighter. He said when he's cutting weight before a fight (which can involve dropping 10 lbs in a weekend) he's cold too. And basically, what we are doing is similar to an extended weight-cutting. All that to say, I think it's a fairly common problem.

I have a blood clot AND it is infected
jacee replied to kulita's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the exact same thing happen to me but no infection.( they infiltrated my vein with an Iv the nurse just shot the pain medicine in the IV without going slowly something popped and I felt an incredible amount of pain) It was with a surgery I had just a few months prior to the sleeve. It hurt and left a terrible bruise from my wrist to my elbow. It also left a bump of Fluid in the crease of my arm. It still hurts, and I still have the slight bruise about 10 inches long. I showed my sleeve surgeon, and she said that it could take up to two and a half years to fully go away..(seriously?) It has been over a year since the infiltration. Some drs and nurses and ppl that draw my blood shake their heads and say they rarely see anything this bad, it totally sucks I am sorry. The original hospital where I had it done, they just said sorry. Nothing they can do. -
Look up the thread "dying to be thin" I PMed the girl who wrote that thread, she said yes she did and still does (after getting this surgery) has problems with throwing up. She said when she was young she would throw up and it went on for a few years. Well she said she finally got help and by the time she was 19 she ruined her metabolism and there for gained alot of weight and other problems. Well after she had this surgery of course the throwing up came back because even if you eat to fast or to much sometimes it makes you puke. Shes I think 5 or 6months out now and she believes her bulimia is back. She is seeking help again.

I was sleeved on 10-14 and I've only lost 20 lbs since I started with the pre opt liquid diet. Is this normal? I haven't lost any lbs these last couple of weeks? Also I wasn't one to be cold I was always hot but lately I've been cold all the time. Is this normal?

Diet Pills and Protein
neenee717 replied to LookatmeNow34's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok me personally I think its ridiculous! I used to take adipex and when your off it you eat like a maniac, it has potential to raise your blood pressure, mess with heart etc. I figure why bother with lap band if your gonna mess with that stuff, which only can be taken short term because of the risks. Im so glad my surgeon didnt play that. Hence I had to be in 6 month pre op program and managing on my own. You dont get restriction right away. I was banded on 9/16/10 and getting scheduled for my 3rd fill this month. I can eat whatever without restriction. I have my bad days where I fall off wagon and eat too much, but then I have to reel it in. Doc says you usually dont get good restriction until after several fills. Anyway didnt mean to be crude or sound so harsh, I just feel so strongly about taking weight loss meds and them not being successful -
10 day preop diet
sweetcheeks709 replied to Kpar909956's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a 2 week liquid diet I have to do. Its almost all protein shakes that I got from my Drs office and 1-2 cups of veggies until 3 days before surgery then its straight protein shakes. For 2 weeks.. :/ Sorry I'm still wrapping my head around it lol. I start that on 10/5, with surgery on 10/20.. I'm a little jealous of the people that only have to do a low carb diet or a few days of liquids. -
Where are you on your weight loss journey?
Lynkaosgood posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi my name is Ashley Osgood, living in Colorado Springs CO. I started my journey for weight loss in December 2014. I had my gall bladder out in December by Dr Wilcox. He happened to be the head surgeon for weight loss surgery at Ft. Carson. That was the beginning for a whole new outlook on life then. I took a few months to think about the surgery and its complications. My mother in law lives with my husband and I. She was less than thrilled to hear of my decision for weight loss surgery. She is absolutely against it and is very vocal about it. Praying for our own place away from her very soon. Anyways I have completed my extensive checklist for tricare approval for surgery. I was finally cleared for surgery on 05/14/15, I was so excited I almost bawled!!! I made the soonest appointment with my surgeon June 10, yeah that seems like such a long wait for something you are looking forward to. Hopefully I can be seen earlier if possible. The wait times for actual surgery after you see your surgeon is about 3 weeks. looks like i might be a July sleever.
