Hi All... I'm 3 weeks post-op and I can't keep food down. My 1st week post op seemed so much better than week 3. I placed a call to my surgeon of course, but I'm waiting for a response since it's the weekend. I love this forum because there is so much 1st hand information. Anyways... Week 2 and going on week 3 has been miserable. I can't stand the thought of putting anything in my mouth because of the nausea. I was prescribed an anti-nausea patch, but so far it hasn't worked. I'm just worried because what little I do try to eat won't stay down. I can drink water, but even then I start getting nauseous. I'm not eating too fast either. I took two tiny tiny bites of yogurt this morning and it came up. I just feel so helpless. This is not what I wanted. I want balance and I want to feel healthy. I feel more u. nhealthy now than I did 30 pounds ago pre-op. I'm glad I've lost weight but this is not happiness. I would take back my 30 lbs pounds if it meant that I would feel good physically. Sure I was unhappy with my pre-op weight, but this nausea and physical starvation (not hunger) is making me feel so radically unhealthy and ill. I know everyone says it gets better... but I don't think I can stand much more of this. Do most people have this relentless nausea and disgust towards food? Please know that I'm not trying to be negative, but right now there are no positives. At this point the weight loss isn't worth it. I hope that one day it will be.

Normal restriction or too tight?
StaceyLink posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got my 2nd fill last week and I've been having a hard time eating. I know that's kinda the point of the band, but I eat 4 bites and find myself with discomfort in my chest. The food does seem to go down though. I'm eating slowly with small bites, but now I find myself wanting more yogurt or slidey foods to supplement the 4 bites of real food. Is this normal restriction or is the band too tight? -

I downloaded my fitness pal and make sure I get between 60 to 90 grams of protein a day by eating a lot of high protein foods like salmon deli meats Greek yogurt... Cheese.. P3.. Egg whites.. Pure protein bars.. I rarely eat too many carbs and try to stick to good carbs...veggies a small amount.. Some fruit like watermelon or cantaloupe. I have not had any Gerd or reflux. I measure everything!! 3/4 cup or 6oz is all I can fit! I am shedding a lot as well I hear at around 6 months it starts to come back but not sure.. I feel ok when I get up.. But I have a routine in the morning and I don't feel any different than before surgery.. Haha never have been a morning person!! I was sleeved 4/23 SW 270 OW 250 CW 203 Stalled now for a week... Tasting ONEderland!! Hahaha Get your protein in!!! It's important!! -
1 week since surgery. I SLEPT ON MY SIDE LASTNIGHT FOR 8 HOURS STRAIGHT! Can you imagine?!?!?!? Yes, it was that good! The gas pains in my left shoulder are almost unmanagable but who cares? I SLEPT ON MY SIDE LASTNIGHT!!!!! The liquid diet is getting easier to manage too. The protien minimum my dietician wants me hitting daily is 67g. I had not complied until yesterday and it was my first day back to work. Here's the food journal: 0700 - 1/2 c oatmeal protien smoothie w. soy milk and skim milk powder. 0800 - 1.2 c water 0900 - 1.2 c peppermint tea 1000 - 1400 EVERY HOUR - 1/2 c split pea soup w. soy milk and 2 Tbsp skim milk powder (in my coffee travel mug 1 c at a time) 1500 - 1/2 c water 1600 - 1//2 c veggie chili w. tomatoe juice 1645 - 1/2 c veggie chili w. tomatoe juice 1800 - 1/2 c greek yogurt w. 3 TBSP blueberry puree 1900 - 1/2 c peppermint tea 2000 - 1/2 c water 2100 - 1/2 c water 2200 - 1/2 c greek yogurt w. pear puree. HELLS YES! Not so bad huh? I didnt slosh at all. My eyeballs werent floating. Maybe because you wouldnt consider these things to be liquids.... Well, I dont really care what YOU (not really you) think! It worked for me! The first 6 days of post-op were spent forcing myself to eat these liquids that were full of protien but sickeningly sweet or actually kind of tasty without even 0.2 g of the magical stuff. I did discover GREEK YOGURT - with 14.7 g of protien per 1/2 delightfully sour cup and a little bit of fruit puree on top - ITS BETTER THAN ICECREAM!! Also, had an appointment with Dr. Love lastnight. Lol. It had been way too long! Perhaps the appointment is the only reason for my fantastic attitude? I dont care... whatever it is, Im holding on tight and ready to keep movin on! KEEP ON TRUCKIN!

Anyone have gastric sleeve years after having your band removed?
EagerPenguin replied to kyotosong's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That is great! It shows dedication to a healthier lifestyle. It'll be good to have a tool (the sleeve) to help keep that off. Your appetite may or may not decrease after sleeve surgery. Mine is still there, but I've read of other who aren't hungry at all for up to a year. I've read that you can expect to lose about 60% of your excess weight with the sleeve, but some have lost more and actually achieved a normal BMI. I've been having some trouble with the diet; I didn't expect it to be this difficult to tolerate. I'm so sick of liquids, of protein shakes, and now of pureed textures. I want something crunchy, a cucumber with greek yogurt ranch dip perhaps. I'll get to regular foods eventually, but the wait is a lot longer in my mind than I was expecting. My weight loss has also been slow so far. I was sleeved on 12/7/17 and have lost about 12 pounds since then, which seems low. I suspect it's due to my medications, because there's no way it's due to excessive caloric intake. And it turns out that the timing is harder than I anticipated. Having the surgery before the holidays has been really hard. I was having a little bit of regret at first, when I was more bummed out about these issues, but I don't regret the surgery at all. I think it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. I totally feel a difference from the band. I had a more difficult recovery with the sleeve than the band (a week of mild nausea, stomach cramps), and as I wrote about above, the inital diet is typically long and in my opinion sucks, but it'll be worth it. So far, instead of my food getting stuck at the top of my stomach, it slowly makes its way to the bottom until I feel satisfied. You still have to eat slowly, and take small bites and chew chew chew, but I've not had any regurgitation, "stuck" foods, or "slime-ing", even now that I've started puree. Also, NOT HAVING A PORT. That's glorious. I hated the thing. It flipped on me shortly after placement, so I had to have another surgery to fix it, the fills were painful, and it was plain uncomfortable under my skin. The sleeve is like night and day from the band. It's becoming very common to revise from the band to sleeve. Best wishes as you make your decision. -
Sugar/Dairy tolerance 14 yrs post
Lady Havok posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have no trouble eating yogurts, cheeses, most candies and fruits; drinking milk, sugar in coffee or tea. But; big but, I cannot eat ice cream, frozen yogurt, fruit smoothies, cake and chocolate in bar form. I know that some of these things are no-nos. But, in the off times that I eat them, I get very sick. I get sweaty, dizzy, have trouble concentrating and finishing sentences. I feeling nearly poisoned. What confuses me is that it is not consistent after 14 years. Does anyone else have similar issues?- 3 replies

My kids are visiting me this week and I have taken them out to eat at great places in Chicago. Now mind you I am eating way less than before but I stuck to the plan religiously before they got here and did not lose 1 oz but then they come and I lose 1lb??? Go figure! I guess its the walking around and bowling that helped. I am also trying to stick to the rules, no bread, no water with meals (that is really hard to do), eat the good stuff . I ate pasta, a little, some popcorn and some frozen yogurt. I nibbled on this and that but no where near the crap I used to inhale. I guess the band is doing its job. Now I have to do mine:thumbup: and I get my first fill this week!

Eating too much
Catherine707 replied to alittler09's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I find that heavy protein meals (ground turkey, meat, and fortified Greek yogurt) tend to make me feel fuller fast. Foods that have simple carbohydrates seem to "slide" right through my stomach and I can eat a larger volume. There are several discussion threads on here about slider foods. The best thing is to experiment and figure out for your body what fills you up and meets your nutrition goals and which foods should be avoided because they lead to over eating. -

10 weeks in an nausea all the time? Help
Heavyduty1966 replied to Heavyduty1966's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Refried beans are good, ive never tried tofu, Greek yogurt has gotten hard to swallow but I do like the idea of protein bars. Thank you. I started using a small fork an baby spoon. My wife thinks I still eat to fast. Its definately a hard thing for me to master. As is not drinking water with my meals. Thanks for the help, its great that people who have already Passed this stage can help out us newby's! Best of luck on yalls end! -
My food palette is so much smaller... I can't stand most food. St paddy's day meal used to be my favorite, I was gagging while cookin it for the family and didn't eat a single bite. Right now the only food I can eat without feeling nauseous is fresh mozzarella, black olives, pickles, garlic hummus and triscuts - I still use unflavored Protein powder in my crystal lite and eat 1 sometimes 2 Protein Bars per day. Even yogurts are tasting too sweet. It's VERY depressing. Flip side - im steadily losing weight (down 30lbs since surgery 8 weeks ago) and am rarely hungry. It's common, and you just have to find a happy medium. Your tastes will Change on the turn of a dime, and from what I've been told in due time you will enjoy foods again

After getting Lapband can any of you briefly describe what you eat in a day??
stept04 replied to betchaican's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I'm on the 2nd week of post-op almost 3rd, which is a full liquid diet, and I have no Fluid in my band yet. For Breakfast I have a cup of oatmeal or cream of wheat then for my snack I'll have my Protein shake, lunch maybe a half a cup of yogurt and a half a cup of sf pudding then my Protein Shake for snack, dinner some cream of something Soup about a cup, then my protein shake before bed. I forgot I have a protein shake before breakfast. I have to fit in 4 Protein shakes to get in all my protein for the day. I'm up real early, so I can fit it all in. ~~~Stephanie -
I am having a hard time finding balance. I've been able to stick with the liquid diet. Limiting myself too water, cream soups, vitamin drinks, and protien shakes. I've also determined that I may now be or maybe I was before and did not pay attention, Lactose Intolerant. I attempted to move onto yogurt and pudding and I became very ill. Severe gas and an upset stomach. Ever since that day and the elimination of dairy I've done much better. I've also realized that I need to make out a food schedule. This way I can have some understanding of what I need to intake. The protein is a must. Most sites and doctors that I've spoken too recommend 50-70 grams of protein. That would equate to 2 shakes a day. Which I have to say I have not been doing. The vitamins that I take are mixed with 16oz of water. This not only allows me to get my vitamin intake but insures that I get enough water. My friend suggested crystal light, I will be going to get some. I wish I could find a diet book that gives more detail. Get eating tidbits on a week by week premise for the first month. I wake up in the mornings starving. If it were not the hunger pangs I would even care about food, but unfortunately they are stronger than I am. Now I am dealing with the emotional part and fact that I relied to much on food to assist in my happiness. Or I'm just so hungry I'm having mood swings. Either was I look forward to a happier me. So My goals for next week are to stick to a food plan, be happier, and to stay motivated.

How Did You Get Through Your Pre-Op Diet?
TiredOfChubRub replied to TiredOfChubRub's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for all of the advice. I am thinking I may go with the Unjury plan as I will at least be able to eat veggies and yogurt. -
I WISH I would feel less restriction and I'm 9+ months out!!! I don't get what my problem is- Last night I ate small slices of steak, and after about 3 maybe 4 ounces I thought I was going to possibly rupture my esophagus-the pain was horrible and my mouth filled up with saliva like right before one is about to vomit. I was really shaken by the experience which lasted about 15 minutes then, thank God, subsided. Today, I could hardly eat even soft warm cereal (had to throw out half of it) Later I had a teaspoon of tuna, followed by 2 tortilla chips, chewed well and then a Greek blueberry yogurt. Three quarters of the way through the yogurt I felt like my esophagus would explode and I stood up in pain. How much longer can I take this? I'm 10 lbs away from goal (135)-at this rate I'll keep losing weight!!! I'm so freaked out about this already. By now I would figure I'd be able to at LEAST feel comfortable eating small portions but instead even the small stuff is giving me pain. WHEN DOES It get BETTER? My bougie is a 40 for goodness sake!

Keep your life simple. When you go to work you can live on 1 shake, water, and maybe a yogurt, or 1/2 to 1 boiled egg, if you need it for awhile. I have cases of shakes I overbought, dozens of soups I stocked up on, etc. etc. Your tastes will change, eating is so simple. Never heard of the boxes. My panty is stuffed with things I thought I might need. Good luck!
