More Fill Please

Had myslef another fill last week. I'm now at 4ml in a 5 ml band. Really do feel the restriction now and I'm enjoying it. I hit the big 10kg loss today which I am very excited about. Here's is an interesting thing I learnt this week - if you have a couple of glasses of wine or any alcohol before eating the restriction will be less because you are relaxed. I tried it out and it's true - bugger it!!

    On The Downhill Slide

Keep up the positive attitude! It is very hard, I know. I was denied once - 3 years ago. I began "the journey" again this Fall. I was the model patient, counting calories / Proteins / carbs, etc.....losing 17 lbs during the intake process. All appointments were completed in a very timely manner. Papers were sent to Insurance for final approval. My anxiety was higher than ever - as I was afraid of the possible outcome. One week, no response. 2 weeks, no response. 3 weeks, the same. I felt like I was on a roller coaster at times. Excited, afraid, angry and hopeless. With the Thanksgiving holiday and my growing feeling of hopelessness, I will admit, I quit documenting my daily intake. Luckily, I managed to keep on track with my "Protein first", low sugar, low carb diet. I really need to measure and document again - as it really served as a good tool for me. (While I am eating all the right things, I find it all to easy to keep dipping into the sunflower seed bag, and I'm fairly certain sf fudgsicles don't really fit into a healthy food category.) Just shy of 5 weeks after the insurance submission I received an automated call from my ins co regarding my "upcoming hospital stay"! Neither my doctor or I had had any contact from them - and then I got this call out of the blue. I had all but given up. I was a bit pessimistic, or scared to Celebrate quite yet, still. I phoned the company for confirmation and to have them fax a copy of the approval letter. It was approved - FOR REAL! My surgery is scheduled for Jan. 5th! I feel like I am rambling...... What I would like to say is never give the hope. It is a very topsy-turvey ride, but one that can be endured with continued focus. Good luck, and remember that there are lots of people there to support you on your journey.
  3. Hello all, I'm new to this group, and only one month post op. I'm curious to know if it is normal to feel hungry all the time! I had my first fill last week, I feel hungry all the time, I haven't felt full since surgery. I feel like I can eat anything I want. Is this typical?? Thanks, Lori
  4. I finally got a seminar in today. This is my 3rd try. Each time I went before they had changed the date and I did not know until I got there. My insurance requires that I do 6 months of WW(ect) while under the monthly care of my regular Dr. for weigh loss also. I started that about a week ago. So it will be awhile before I can have surgery. I also have to lose 10% of my body weight while on WW. I have tried many times to lose, even WW(weight watchers) but could only lose about 20 pounds then it would not move down anymore for nothing(weeks on end). So I know that this site is more for the lap band but what about the sleeve, anyone? The dr at the seminar says that he won't tell anyone which sugery to have but he made it seem like the sleeve was the better choice...he says is has less risk than the lap band and that he does about 35% lap band and 65% sleeve. He said that weigh loss was better with the sleeve. ......I am tore now as to which I might want to have done.
  5. Bandista, I had not known about the squeezes sending signals from the esophagus but keep in mind it is not as though I am eating yogurt and boost drinks all day. I usually have three yogurts a day and two boost drinks. With that amount of calories I cannot get my head around the fact that my weight is not going down any longer. People that are stuck in hospital beds that do NO form of exercise whatsoever still seem to lose weight. This entire situation has been a complete and absolute curse for me and the frustration level is through the roof. Not to mention all the isolation that I am forced to live with because it is difficult and painful to get around with the cane. At 330 I am a big guy and I can't tell you how many times I have taken falls and near falls. Everything I do is a struggle so leaving the Apt. is saved for doctor and dentist visits. I know that something must be done..........

    August sleeve buddy?

I am totally new here and started my 2 week pre-op diet today. My sleeve is on August 3. I am a nervous wreck, but there is a little part of me that is excited. Would love to talk to people in the same spot as me!

    No more weight loss?

.No you didn't have surgery for just 34 pounds. I had my surgery on Jan 26th. It will be 4 weeks Tuesday. I lost 20 pounds in the first 10 days and haven't lost a pound since Feb 3rd. That is a stall. By the way 34 pounds in 5 weeks is great. That is over 6 pounds a week. I would suggest you do a search on "embracing the stall" there are several threads about this topic. It night help you understand what is going on.
  8. Hi everyone. I just got approved Wednesday and will have a surgery date on 9/13. So, while I've been waiting on things, I've decided to start a mini pre-op diet of 2 Protein shakes and a meal per day (5days a week). While I've been dropping 1 to 1 1/2lb per day, I've been feeling really fuzzy by mid afternoon along with headaches. While I mostly understand why this is happening right now, I can't continue to feel like this forever. Will this continue to happen after surgery? While I'm feeling upbeat about everything, I'm really worried about this. Of course, I will bring this up with my dr on Tuesday but I wanted to get others feedback. I appreciate any insight or optimism about this.

    Hello!!

Hello everyone, my name is Chris and I am in the process of getting the Lap Band. I have already had my consultation, nutrition evaluation and psych evaluation per my insurance. I am one of the luck ones in that my insurance will pay for 80% of my surgery. I am hopeing to have a surgery date within the next week or two, and hopefully have surgery next month. I have been reading everything I can get my hands on regarding the Lap Band and just wanted to thank everyone who posts here, you have answered a lot of questions and really given me hope. I know I can do it!!!

    OK- Here I go!

Welcome! I have had my band just 7 weeks and love it. Life has complications....and being fat as we get older carries a big bunch of risks. The statistics on lasting bad side effects with the band are low; lower than the statistics for lasting bad side effects if you did nothing and remained heavy (or got heavier) So Good to meet you!
  13. Hi all thought I would say hello and hope to be joining all you bandsters here right away. I am 36, wife, mother of 18 yo boy and 12 yo girl and a full time student. I have been lurking here for around 2 weeks and finally decided to stop and settle in. I go for my pysc. evaluation and meet the surgeon on the 5th of April. I am a self payer so hopefully it wont be too long before I am can bend over and tie my shoes again!! You all seem like such a great bunch, hope to get to know some of you better.

    helpful hints

I would say my best advise is take off at least 1 week, start walking right away, and buy plenty of different kinds of Protein drinks. I bought a variety and it helped because you get bored drinking the same thing meal after meal.

Also, reward yourself for small goals. It helps. THe first 4 weeks were the hardest for me. I thought I would never make it though the liquid stage. I, however, lost alot of weight during that time.

    Hi Everyone Banded - 10/27/2011

I was banded 10/25/11 and am starting week 6 solid foods today. I'm shocked it takes me so long to get hungry. My weight loss has stalled even with increased exercise. I know I have another week of healing but I got used to seeing those numbers decrease every day . I consume 1000 - 1100 calories per day and average a 2900 calorie burn per my BodyBugg. I am shrinking in areas so I know my body is making changes . TBM

Thank you!!! I like exercise but need to fit it in. I have a ton more energy. I was in Key West for 2 months and it is a walking town so I rode my bike about 3 times a week and walked everywhere. I need to increase that and do foyer an longer. I am curious how bike riding has helped in toning?

    Hi everyone!!

I have heard that Tricare is tough also however my experience was the opposite. I am a AF wife. I was 100 lbs overweight after having three kids. I have a huge family history of diabetes and had gestational diabetes in my last pregnancy. I got my referral in August 2008 and was banded by the end of October 2008. I did not have major hoops to jump through. I wasn't required to see a psychologist. I only had a few tests and that was it along with my surgeons diet requirements. Good luck!

    Hi from Colorado

Hi! I am also in Colorado--in Pueblo--welcome and good luck with your band and your mother-in-law! I guess I am lucky because I absolutely love my in-laws. They are just the nicest people you could ever meet. I actually look forward to their visits cuz when they're here, I don't have to cook or clean--they do everything! My husband usually takes the week off when they come, but I always have to work, so I always come home to dinner and a clean house! They are awesome. Well, I hope Cigna doesn't make it too difficult for you--I had to pay up front, and am now trying to get reimbursed from my insurance, and it has been a nightmare! They have screwed everything up from the start. It has been 6 months, and I have only gotten back $910 for the anesthesia portion, and they sent that check to the doctor instead of me, and I had to wait for them to send it to me. Its just a big mess, but they had said it would be covered before I had the surgery. My surgeon will not bill insurance anymore because he has had so many problems getting paid--now I know why! So, I had to pay everything up front and am now waiting, waiting, waiting for reimbursement. Good luck with your journey!

    My Protein Shake Panacea

The best Protein is whey protein. If that is the first ingredient on the package, it's high quality protein. Somebody made a post just a couple of days ago, maybe yesterday, explaining what to look for, and the differences in Proteins....I think it was Shane Ferris (OTR sleever). As for getting in the required protein, nobody does it the first couple of weeks. Just try your best. Getting in the Water is more important. But if you can't get in the protein, I wouldn't waste any energy eating anything that is full of carbs and absent protein. For example, I had grits on my list of approved full liquids, but my nut told me not to eat them unless I was getting close to my protein goal. After about a week, I was hitting that goal, so I started enjoying a small bowl of grits about every other day until I hit the soft food stage.

    New to vertical sleeve talk

Welcome to the site. My nutritionist says there is no real hunger, that the hunger is in your head. In surgery, the part of the stomach that "gets hungry" is removed. I don't know what to say about the nausea. Are you eating very, very slowly, chewing your food very, very well, eating very, very small bites and eating only small amounts at any given time? Are you sure you still need to crush your meds? I only had to do so for about three weeks. If you need to, mix the crushed meds with applesauce or pudding, something with flavor. I took one pill that was very bitter when crushed. It was vile tasting no matter what I mixed it with. I just had to buck up and take it anyway. It is only for a short time. In fact, all of your difficulties are only for a short time. Hang in there and give us updates on your situation.
  25. So...my last post I was just past the Psych eval, waiting on 2009 record, since then all has fallen into place. Today I met with my surgeon, Dr. Anderson, and after that meeting we set up the surgery date! October 31! Yes, just a little over 2 weeks away until I begin the process of a new me!!!! I am excited, and nervous, but mostly ready for this next step in life!
