  1. oh good!!! I hope you're able to get a surgery date that soon!!! My partner is having bypass with Dr. Soloman and we're hoping for the end of March/beginning of April!! Oh, and after you see Dr. Takahashi, they are going to have you do a 4 hour bariatric surgery class over where the support groups are. I had to wait 3 weeks to get into that class because the first one was full and I think it's only offered every two weeks. They sure make you jump through a ton of hoops!!!!
  2. Huepenbecker was my surgeon in September as well, and I really like him. He's very no-nonsense - gets you in and out quickly, but if you have questions, he will answer them for you. I had my first fill in November, and it was a 15 minute visit with no pain and plenty of laughter. Dean has been very good to me. I highly recommend them as well.
  3. Hello All, My bypass was 1/13/23. Since thenm I'be lost 76lbs. Recently i've been suffering with very low energy. I'm taking my multivitamin as i should but all i want to do is rest and or sleep. Any physical exercise past rest makes me extremely tired and i just want to rest. Is this "normal"? 6 months out i did'nt expect to have this issue. Should i Just be more patient with my body?
  4. I am 54 years old, and have fought the battle of the bulge for all my life. I remember when I wad younger I couldn't find clothes to fit me right so I would buy my jeans in the boys section. I started Weight Watchers at the young age of 16! I married at the age of 19' we had our first daughter after I graduated from Nursing School. I weighed 132 at the beginning of my pregnancy. Never could get back down to my ore pregnant weight again! By the time I realized it, I was pregnant with our second child. They are 13 months apart. I loved being a mother, worked part time. Life was good. Always joining rejoining WW, or trying every new fad diet available. We have another daughter 3 years later. Family complete! Still back and forth with the diets. Never being able to drop the weight. Around the age of 40, I think I weighed around 200 lbs, hoping to see the wonder100's again. It never happened. I was always the biggest mom in my children's classes. I love being around people, and I think very outgoing, but as the weight continues to go upward, I went inward. The beginning if a very deep depression, which I sought counseling for, and still am. But the weight keep going up and up. Jenny Craig came into my life, I between Weight Watchers, etc, etc, etc...you know the picture. 2000 rolls around we have a lot of family tragedies, loss of brother inlays and sister in law in bridge accident, son lost 2 best friends, my comfort, food food, and more food, to bring me comfort! Weddings come around, my husband says, we need to lose the weight, so we aren't fat in all these pictures! Pictures last forever. nicely put. We all joined WW! My daughter (the bride ) made her goal! Me however gained everything they lost! Now for my sons wedding, I found a new "weight loss diet". Medifast! Did good for awhile, lost about 30 lbs, wore a size 16 dress! Quickly gained the weight back after getting off the diet! No surprises. Our last daughter got married in November of last year, husband once again, same statement. But life gets in the way! My mothers health was failing rapidly, my prayer is she would live to see her youngest granddaughter get married. She passed away on my daughters birthday, (yes the one who got married) 1 month, and 10 days before the wedding! 8 days after my mom died, we had a new granddaughter, so there was our ray of sunshine! 22 days later, my husbands best friend died from a brain tumor, then 11 days later, our daughter was married. Well what does one due in those situations you know eat, eat, eat! I had to let my dress out. How embarrassing! I just bought it in August! I was just too much! January of 2014 I weighed 261 at the dr. Office I as devastated. She was so nice, get the weight of she suggested Weight Watchers! Lol! In March a dr. Approached me asking me if I ever thought of doing the sleeve! I always swore I wouldn't do Bariatric surgery! Well never say never! One more diet, try Herbalife, well that lasted 2 months, I was in the dr. Office! My initial weight at her office is 255 so that is my official weight! That is my long drawn out story! I am ready to begin my new chapter, am hoping September 30th in a new start. Still awaiting insurance approval. Hopefully hear tomorrow!!! Sorry this was so long! Thanks for the support on this board. It is most helpful! [ attachment=48133:ImageUploadedByBariatricPal1411351975.746728.jpg] My husband and I I had lost 13 lbs. here!

    I like this!

Hi everybody! What a great thread!! I was banded November 14, 2006 and as of late last month I'm down 110 pounds. 80 to go. It's slow going but entirely worth the trip! Good luck to all!!

Denied! Now what do I do?

DON'T DO ANYTHING until you contact Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy. They can help you, I know. My peer-to-peer for band to bypass procedure was denied last week so at the advice of many on this site, I contacted them and THEY are appealing my case. Google them for contact information. You won't be sorry. I have a great deal of confidence that my decision will be overturned!

a little bit of this, a little bit of that

I lost 11lbs in a month! (March 3 - April 6) Yay! But I have to wonder how much of that was from being sick and not eating as much vs following the meal plan. You know how when you're sick and you lose weight and then gain it back when you're well? I'm hoping it's not that. All of it can't be. And you know what that means? That I'm 7 or 8 lbs from goal! I weighed in at 262 point something (which blew my mind), and my goal is 255. One of my coworkers said I look like I've lost some weight and I noticed that my orange old navy tee seemed to fit looser and my Threadless Pillow Fight tee felt a slightly looser. My Avenue jeans also felt looser. And I think my Lame Giant jeans fit better too. I better stop before I list every article of clothing I own. Not everything fits differently. My jean petal pushers from Ross didn't seem any different. And I don't notice any difference in my bras. That's the weird thing. When I lose or gain weight I don't feel any different. I just feel like me. It's like my clothes magically shrink or get bigger while I stay the same. Which reminds me, I bought some clothes at Old Navy. Just tops. I'm really loving their Lace-Trim V-Neck Camis right now, so I got 3 of them (I already have 5 of them). They make my boobs look great! I got 2 in black and one in this funky green color to go under another top I have. If it doesn't match I'll take it back and just wear a black one with the top. I also got 2 other tank tops, a long sleeved thermal, which I wasn't sure about since I'm planning on shrinking. I got a super cute graphic tee, and I think that's it. I got 7 things for like 40 bucks. Not bad. I have done better in the past though. I've gotten about the same number of items for like 26 bucks before. My coworkers think I'm so cheap. And I guess I am. But here's the thing. I'll totally throw down a couple hundred on a purse like it ain't no thang. lol. Or on cosmetics/beauty crap (hair, nails, makeup). But that also does have to do with my job and jobs I may have in the future. I'm really liking Old Navy right now. Besides that a lot of their tops are too thin (supposedly you're supposed to layer everything now), I like that they're affordable (I'm a sale rack shopper), and I like that their regular woman's sizes go up to 20 on bottoms on 2x on tops. That's how it should be. Up to size 20 you're normal sized. Above 20 you're fat. I'm fat. But when I was a size 20 I was thin. 20 is thin for me. More stores should be like this. Sizes shouldn't top off at 12 or 14 when the average woman is a 14/16. The one thing that pisses me off about ON is that they don't carry plus sizes in the stores anymore. But hopefully that won't be an issue much longer. I found out what's wrong with my liver. I have NASH. That'll have an entry all it's own in case you're wondering what it is. Getting back to the start; I wonder if I could reach goal next month? That just feels so fast. I've got so much coming up, idk when I'd have surgery. My birthday's this month. Next month is Bay to Breakers (which we are so not prepared for =/ ). My sister is supposed to have her baby at the end of June, and I've got a dentist appointment mid June. And a coworker is having her baby, so she'll be out for 6 weeks. I almost forgot about that. We're going to Vegas mid July. After that nothings planned. Work wise, and I don't care if it inconveniences them b/c I need to put me first, August is back to school, September (bfs birthday) / October (our anniversary) are usually slower months (but one of my coworkers is getting married in October), November / December are holidays. May would be perfect. But this may wouldn't work for various reasons, and I wouldn't want to wait a whole nother year. Jess suggested June, but that seems fast and idk about having it done before Vegas. But I'm not against it. Part of me wants December just to be like, f**k the man (I'm way more bark than bite). However it happens I'm sure it will work out. I was just preferring Spring or Summer because I'd be more likely to get out and walk when it's nice out. I know myself. I don't like to get out and walk when it's cold and/or rainy. That's another thing that's really irritating me about work. I found out today that one of my coworkers scheduled her vacation for the same time as mine. (In all fairness, her boyfriend picked the dates, but still.) And I've been planning mine since the beginning of the year. And we never go on vacation. Literally, we have not gone on a vacation since 2006. Taking a weekend to go visit my mom who lives an hour away is not a vacation. I've had the hotel booked since mid February and the tickets for the conference we're going to are non-refundable. And I am not about to be out of $900! Since the beginning of the year I've been saying that we're going in July to Vegas since my work has this stupid policy where they don't want you to put in requests for time off more than a couple months in advance so that everyone has a chance at time off. Which is so stupid because most people plan months or longer in advance and there's no guarantee we can have the time off even if we put in a request and our entire trip (or event like say a wedding) is paid for and non-refundable. Luckily this hasn't been an issue other than with previous management having a bitch fit over it (I requested Saturdays off because I was training for a half marathon for a charity over like a 4 month period. And in the beginning I was still working a half day after training). And because of this policy and the fact that the schedules are made so far in advance, lately I've been forgetting to put in requests for the days I need. I almost forgot to request off Bay to Breakers. They claim they want us to have lives and to use our vacation time, but then get mad when we try to. I have a love hate relationship with my work. I feel like it would be impossible to go back to school for something, even one class a week. BUT... I got promoted!! (after this big ol rant about my job, haha). I'm assistant manager now! I know I wasn't my boss's first choice. I got it because my manager wanted me to be it, not the girl the boss wanted. He announced my promotion at our work meeting we had. Idk if it was just me, but it sounded like the position could be taken away from me, the way he was talking about it. I mean, obviously if I'm not doing the job it can be taken away. He said, just cause I was assistant manager now, doesn't mean there aren't opportunities for others to have the position. Then he segued into shift leaders. Like, nice save there, but I got what you meant. Or I could be reading into it cause I don't think he likes me. And I can totally see why he'd want her in the position by the way she is around him. But he doesn't see how she is when he's not there. But enough about that. So that's exciting. I hope I get a raise soon. I need to save for so much. The surgery. Vegas. Bills. The future. If someday I do get a different job or start working for myself, idk what my options for health care will be at that time. I just can't see having a major surgery and then not having health care. Plus now that I have the liver issue and I get sick way more often than I'd like. And I actually like my PCP for once. And my va-jay dr. Plus idk how much I should save for the month I'm off after surgery. You bet I'm taking a full month. Idk if I've got everything listed that I'll need money for. Rent Surgery - I'm pretty sure I now how much this will be Health Care - I'll have to pay this instead of having it take out of my checks automatically Groceries - whatever I'll need for after surgery and my bf still needs to eat, the cat needs to eat PG&E - I can guesstimate this Comcast - this is always the same amount Credit Card(s) bill - I can only assume we'll still have this Entertainment - gas money, bridge toll, Laundry quarters Lost wages - I can approximate how much this'll be my cell phone bill If anyone actually reads this and has any suggestions, please comment. That's all I can think of right now that I'd need to save for.
  8. In September 2013, I was given the diagnosis of Ewings Sarcoma. I was 27. In short, I went through 10 months of grueling chemotherapy. I spent most of those 10 months in the hospital either recieving chemo, or so sick I needed to be hospitalized. I lost 70 pounds. I used to joke that my silver lining was that I at least wasn't so fat. I was declared NED in July 2014. Shortly, and I mean shortly after, I gained those 70 pounds back, and an additional 10. My oncologist sat me down one appointment and described the damage the chemotherapy had done to my body. "You have the body of a 60 year old." I just turned 28. I have been big my entire life. Before chemo, before cancer, I was still active. I couldn't run a marathon, but I could still hang with the best. After chemo was completely different. I could barely walk down my drive way, take a shower. I was out of breath for everthing. I sat with my husband and decided this is what we needed to do. I needed weight loss surgery. I can not reverse what the chemo did to my body, but I could get healthy and stop my weight from causing more damage. On November 22, 2016 I will be going in to have weight loss surgery. I am terrified of this journey, but I know that it will be worth it in the end.

Had my Surgery Today in the Morning...

Great to see that you are doing well!!!! I just had my bypass on Jan 4. I had the same meal after surgery (stage 1). Then by day two being in the hospital I was on stage 2 and the only thing added was the Protein mix. FOR THE BEST!!!![emoji173][emoji173][emoji173][emoji173]
  10. I started seriously thinking about the surgery in November and did some research then. Took a break for the holidays and then attended my first informational meeting in early January. My surgery was April 12, so about 6 months total. I also changed my mind about what type of surgery I wanted.

    No support

I don't have suggestions as I was just sleeved a couple days ago. I'm just so shocked at your lack of support. No nutritionist? I feel like I have a million follow up appointments already scheduled through next November. This is not right!
  12. I have wondered the very same thing, but I agree with Tiffany has part of the success of what we are experiencing. I know that if I ate as little as I do now I would be constantly hungry, shaky, and unhappy. I know that people who have had the gastric bypass DO get hungry so that's one reason I chose this surgery. I have been lucky to have only a few people scoff at what I did - one called me an a*****e and a gigantic hypocrite [on Facebook for all to see] to do what I did and actually tell people about my journey. She said that not everybody can afford to better themselves and therefore I was the bad guy. She, I might mention, is not overweight which makes it even stranger. Oh, well - enough about my little life. I'm happy with the choice I made and YAY for the rest of us!!

Those of you that drink alcohol

I used to be a 'gourmet' beer drinker...stouts, dark ales, etc. My surgeon/nutritionists strongly recommend that I avoid beer (or any carbonated or alcoholic beverage) due to the empty calories adding up fast and the carbonation possibly stretching the pouch. They've shown that bypass patients are more sensitive to the effects of alcohol, because of the 're-routing' of the small intestine and because they actually have a much smaller stomach post-surgery. Maybe for banders it would be because of the lower body mass once you've lost weight...the same amount of alcohol would produce a higher level in the bloodstream?? (just guessing) I'm guessing that beer for me will be an extremely occasional thing...maybe when I get to goal I'll have some more often. Even in the past, I drank beer for the rich flavor...rarely had more than two in an evening, and that was usually once or twice a week. I'm paranoid about drinking and driving, so if I'm at a picnic or evening function, I never drink. My dad was an alcoholic and drove drunk all the time.
  14. Looks like you are doing great! Hope that I can do as well when the time comes! I am having the surgery on November 19th. My daughter is graduating high school in May & I would love to be able to take pictures with her and not be embarrased. You really are an inspiration to all of us in pre-op land!

    Thinking of Lap Band Surgery

I had a BMI of around 67 when I got my surgery. So no, a higher BMI isn't a contraindication. This is surgery to promote weight loss. If your doc tries to push bypass on you, go to a seminar where you can get objective fair data on both and make your choice. I had to do a preop diet that was pretty strict but it wasn't to lose weight so much as to shrink my (enlarged by fat) liver. You may have that depending on your lab results etc. However it was just for a few weeks (would've only been 3 if I hadn't cheated) and it wasn't that bad.

    PCP visit

I'm drinking a protein shake eating protein rich food and drinking injury chicken broth to get close to it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App What foods are high in protein.... I know eating baked sweet potato is good but what about eating tv dinners such healthy choice? and how many Protein shakes do you drink?(gastric bypass)

    Probiotics

Yes I have been taking them for years. Continued with them last year with my sleeve and now with my bypass as well.
  18. Hello all, I had my surgery on November 1st. I'm so glad to find this site and all of you. Generally, I am keeping my surgery private but found that its hard to really talk about to those who are not going through this process. I've gotten a lot of "we support you (but not necessarily the process)". I look foward to getting to know everyone!
  19. Good luck with your gastric bypass. I am three weeks post bypass, doing overall well. There is a lot to learn, new skills, and so much information! I agree -- it is tough for my relatives (dozens in the area) to see why I did this fairly drastic step, but they were not there with me during the dozens or hundreds of times I failed at weight loss. Yes, some have judged me but most are very glad I am doing well. Your MIL is just reacting from fear -- she does not want to rock the status quo, but good for you, it is your life and your body!

    Post op and diabetes

This and the other success stories have me more optimistic then ever before. Presently with the 50 lbs I lost pre op my last A1C was 6.9 my average novo rapid usage is down to maybe 10-14 units a day usually after supper. Traditionally my biggest meal of the day. I take 2 g of metformin in a day 1g in morning And 1 g supper time. I take Victoza and invokana in the morning and about 35 units of Humilin N at night time. So it's my hope to be med free with the next 50 lbs and post op surgery date is may 31 and it's a gastric bypass. Cheers, Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    how to choose

I had GERD so my surgeon recommended bypass. I don't regret my decision.
  22. Ditto to all these. Acid reflux and Diabetes and never recommended bypass as best option for me. Sent from my HTC One M9 using the BariatricPal App
  23. "I’m going for the gastric bypass and have set my surgery date (or am trying to get one set)." I am a VSG patient, actually.. but this was the closest option Surgery is set for 3/29!
  24. Lapband removed and bypass on 3/6/13. HW 265, date of surgery weight 230, weight today 190.5. I'm 34 and 5'6". Things r going well. Except I seem to b slipping back into old sugary eating habits. It scares me. And I can eat more than I should b able to. Still super happy I had the surgery.

    Crossfit Workouts?

First of all its really expensive.. I haven't seen the start to finish product.. However, I do know that its really intense.. but it look like it awesome.. you might want to try to start slow then work your way up.. I would be concern about you losing interest hitting it that hard. P90x is also a good work out.. several people i know have done it.. that are banded and or gastric bypass..
